Site Improvements

Happy New Year (almost)!

A few changes here on Obama Conspiracy Theories.

In order to improve site usability and reduce page load times, comments are now paged, instead of one hugely long list.

The number of articles under each of the Conspiracies section is now displayed.

A major new feature for commenters is threaded comments. You can now reply specifically to a comment rather than to the entire article. I hope this will improve the organization of the comments. Click on “Reply to this comment” to reply to the comment. I love this feature!

Two new sections have been added, one for News and one for Questions. These will allow topical discussions to thrive while keeping comments focused on the article topics. Obama Conspiracy Theories is very much intended to be a magazine-style site with a strong emphasis on the visitor’s ability to find what they need quickly. Please help us by using these new sections where appropriate.

You may see from time to time words that are underlined like THIS. Hover your mouse pointer over the text to see the explanation of the acronym.

Oh… is it the Ask a Theorist thing? My bad 🙁

    Again, GREAT SITE!!!
One suggestion, and, I know NOTHING about web sites, etc, so please do not take this as any manner of criticism, as it may simply be something that cannot be done easily. I was wondering if there was a way to simply either have an “open comments” blog area or a way to show new comments for all articles somehow in the main “conspiracies” section?

I know right now one can find “recent comments” and see where the comments been posted, but if you don’t visit for a few days or if there are a number of comments made you are unsure where anyone has replied to your comments without looking at all the various posts.

Just makes it a bit confusing to carry on a discussion. This may well be because I am not very computer literate, though! 🙂

Anyway, it was just a thought I had today. And again, I LOVE THE SITE!!

  3. This web site is managed by a blogging content management system called WordPress. There are literally thousands of add-ins for WordPress, but I don’t know of something that will make it easier for visitors to manage comments. The new threaded comments feature I turned on will help keep conversations together (click the Reply link inside the comment), but otherwise you may be stuck with trying to remember which articles you commented on.

I don’t have a way to make an fully open comments area, but I am adding a generic NEWS article every few days for just that purpose. Click on News under the Conspiracies list to find these generic articles. This is the place to chat about new stuff!

I’ve been trying to post in what I hope has been the appropriate place. If I don’t, just tap me on the head. I take constructive criticism very well. I appreciate all the hard work you do so we can enjoy this site. Everyone is generally very respectful of one another. Which is a wonderful change from some of the blogs I have seen.

  5. Oh, no criticism. Running a blog is like herding cats, as they say. Folks will comment where they will. 🙂

By the way, a management enhancement I made will let me move comments from one topic to another. I won’t do much of that because it can make it hard for visitors to keep up, but from time to time you might find a comment moved to a more relevant location.

Like Bogus, I will also try to post in the appropriate places, but please give me the “heads up” if my comments are in the wrong spot. I’m not very computer savvy, this whole blog world is all very new to me!

And again, thanks so much for doing this! What a wonderful site!
