Moderation in all things

There is a saying: “I felt sorry because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no legs.” I had some problems with one commenter’s frequent postings sort of drowning out the discussion, but that seems rather minor since a new major troll has appeared.

Visitors here can only keep up with what’s happening in the area of comments by reading from the Recent Comments sidebar, or scanning each article. That’s fine as long as there are only a few occasional comments. When anyone (myself included) goes on a commenting binge, that forces other folks’ off the Frequent Comments list.

Another issue is that the interface I use to comment allows me to comment deeper than the nested level limit (and not tell me that I’m doing it) and the result is that some of my comments cannot be seen.

I’m looking for a general solution to the comment problems, but in the mean time, I have “moderated” AXJ. Their off topic comments will be deleted, and a few on topic comments (ones that seem at least responsive and have a grain of thought attached) will be approved. [There are also spam filters that occasionally moderate messages based on certain content; the word “poker” to block gambling spam is one of them.]  I have also added a “quote” link for commenting that will make it simpler for you to quote what you’re commenting on. I’ll try to comment less.

One possibility would be to create an Obama Conspiracies forum, but I hesitate to do that since there already is an excellent forum for such discussions at Politijab.com. Folks who just want to read the comments are urged to use the RSS Feed.

There is a saying: “I felt sorry because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no legs.”

And a follow-up: “So I asked him, ‘Hey, do you have any old shoes that you don’t need anymore?'”

On the comment-spammers, the Aug 22 list of “Top commenters” may have been counter-productive. Kind of made mere quantity appear a virtue.

  2. AXJ says:

So you too have decided to apply OBAMA type censorhip [sic]?

I’m going to try to keep order. If you make a reasonable number of comments per day, they will all get approved.

  3. Welsh Dragon says:

Needs must – thanks for the new widgets.

  4. nbc says:

There is no Obama type censorship. So far the only censorship comes from those who doubt Obama’s eligibility and who have chosen to disrupt cites with their irrelevant claims and statements.
Trolls have no place on the boards…

  5. AXJ says:

    Not true.

Censorship (“moderation”) is coming from all the websites that are proving OBAMA was not born in the USA.

They just attacked Orly’s website again…wonder why?

  6. kimba says:

I don’t know about counterproductive. I felt sort of like Bob – I needed a new hobby! I vow to keep my zaney posts to a minimum going forward and especially during high traffic times, and perhaps *others* could try to do a little less troll-feeding!

  7. I have first hand experience with censorship from Orly, and Berg, and The Betrayal, and Donofrio, and many others.

I hear you are banned over at Politijab, but the only one who is.

As for Orly, she imagines attacks all the time. Is her web site under attack? She’s cried wolf so many times, it’s not worth checking out.

  8. AXJ says:

Censorship is a negative thing in an open society. Especially in Ciberspace. AXJ is not full of hackers or anything like that, just people that want to read what others post, be it right or wrong. Remember the truth is the approximation to reality. Hope you don’t decide to censor. Cheers.

  9. Just keep in mind that this is a privately paid for and operated web site and I like everyone that publishes, exercises discretion in choosing their content. Newspapers don’t print EVERY letter to the editor and I do not know of any web site that doesn’t have some guidelines for what they allow.

I have no interest in keeping ideas from being heard, but (as you may have sensed) I want to provide the best experience for my visitors and that may require limiting comments. I am always open to suggestions.

  10. AXJ says:

Just remember that AXJ is an open forum as well and nobody knows who published the comment about you over there. Is it true?

  11. AJXUS.com is such a jumble, it’s a miracle anybody can find anything over there. As to the “comment about me”, I haven’t a clue what you’re referring to.

  12. misha says:

I think if this site is flooded with comments that are straight out of Lyndon LaRouche, moderation is in order. There was another by DCBiker, who clearly did not want a rational discussion.

I don’t want to see this site hijacked by people who are not rational, in the commonly accepted understanding.

AXJ was banned at politijab.com for good reason. And some of jtx’s comments are recycled boilerplate.

OTOH, I don’t mind sparring with Apuzzo. And I have done so with Heavy.

  13. misha says:

Dr. Conspiracy: AJXUS.com is such a jumble, it’s a miracle anybody can find anything over there.

I went to AXJ, and it gave me a headache. I’ve rarely seen that – it’s organized confusion.

  14. AXJ says:

    FYI:
BIRHTERS VICTORY: EVIDENCE OBAMA WAS BORN IN KENYA?

    http://www.scribd.com/doc/19425773/KEYES-v-OBAMA-55-NOTICE-Declaration-regarding-Kenian-Hospital-Birth-Certificate-of-Barack-Obama

Mr. LUCAS DANIEL SMITH has just provided the millions of American Citizens that do not trust Mr. Barack Hussein Obama II the proof they needed to have Congress either Impeach Mr. OBAMA or have him resign immediately before the court hearing scheduled next Tuesday September 8, 2009 at 08:00am in a Santa Ana, CA. Court Room full of media from around the world.

Apparently Mr. SMITH with the help of another person and against the wishes of the Prime Minister of Kenya, Raela Odinga, cousin of Mr. OBAMA, has obtained a certified copy of OBAMA’s Birth Certificate that proves he was born in Mombassa, KENYA in 1961, which has been presented to the Court as an Affidavit and under penalty of perjury.

Apparently Mr. ROGER E WEST ( Email: roger.west4@usdoj.gov ) will be representing OBAMA in Court.

If the Honorable Presiding Judge admits this Affidavit and Sworn Testimony, it is possible Mr. OBAMA will be ORDERED to appear before the Court.

It is possible Mr. OBAMA at that moment can be found guilty of FRAUD upon the American People and arrested as some speculate.

The question will also arise if all those that conspired against the American People will also be arrested and charged?

Will this turn out to be the greatest Constitutional Crisis in recent American History?

  15. AXJ: Will this turn out to be the greatest Constitutional Crisis in recent American History?

No. It will turn out to be a quickly-forgotten fraud. Look at the form. It has the price in shillings and pence. Kenya uses cents, not pence. Remember, this weak forgery was based on a form copied from Australia, where they did use pence.

  16. misha says:

Better yet, he admitted in an afidavit, bribing a foreign official. That looks really good to a DA. I think I know who is going to end up prosecuted – and it’s not the president.

  17. richCares says:

you have to be mentally ill to accept this fake BC, will make for a good laugh by the judge, time for AJX to check in to Bellevue!

  18. richCares says:

afidavit wasn’t signed, I dont think he wrote that, it’s Orly taking liberty.

  19. racosta says:

“If the Honorable Presiding Judge admits this Affidavit and Sworn Testimony, it is possible Mr. OBAMA will be ORDERED to appear before the Court. ”

it’s possible AJX will be ordered to undertake mental examination and probably be declared legally insane. What will AJX say on Sept 9th? (if he’s not commited by then)

  20. jtx says:

    Doc:

Too funnie … the flamingly liberal “discussion” website now (after all the proud mouthing off to the contrary) is now taking the classical, time honored solution that when not being able so shout down those holding opposite beliefs you just “moderate” them,

What a crock, doc!! Thought you were more principled than that but now we see the truth emerge. You guys just can’t ABIDE that, can you??? Moderate away, “doctor” (or is it “psuedo-lawyer”??).

  21. misha says:

Thanks for the feedback. I just skimmed the post on scribd.

  22. You haven’t lost your talent for derision, I see. I am neither a doctor nor a lawyer.

There are plenty of places (including here) to publish Obama conspiracy theories. My Bookmarks Page (see top) lists many of them INCLUDING that of AXJ.

The classic comment is that free speech does not allow one to shout “Fire” in a crowded theater. I say that free speech does not allow one to shout anything continually in a crowded theater so as to overpower the performance and ruin the experience for everyone.

Within the bounds of simple decency, I don’t care what viewpoint anyone promotes here, so long as it is generally relevant to Obama conspiracies. But I am not going to permit anyone to make it harder for other people to follow the conversation, or to start arguments just for the sake of disruption (e.g. when AXJ started asking about the historicity of Jesus).

But since it is my blog, I will use my own judgment as to what is on topic and what is not, and what is abusive and what is not.

  23. racosta says:

    thank you

  24. richCares says:

“shout down those holding opposite beliefs”

moderating snarky insults is not shouting down opposite beliefs, I trust Dr. C’s judgement on this

  25. misha says:

I think that when commentators here dogmatically regurgitate John Birch boilerplate, it is perfectly reasonable to ban it.

As noted before, I have sparred with Apuzzo, and that is fine. Personally, I think what his triumvirate is trying to do is repugnant. Donofrio objected to being called a former lawyer. His law license is apparently active, so he wins on a technicality. But he does not earn a fraction of income from a law practice.

  26. misha says:

“moderating snarky insults is not shouting down opposite beliefs”

Most of my comments are snarky, I’ll have you know. Watch this: Hey Orly, have you ever considered lithium? Have you ever discussed Prozac with a professional?

Look into it. Oh, and you are a shonde.

  27. Mary Brown says:

Thank you. I feel some people here are not interested in anything but throwing insults. Name calling is idiotic even though many have been guilty on occasion. But when name calling replaces and attempt at logic it is time to say enough.

  28. Bob says:

If the Honorable Presiding Judge admits this Affidavit and Sworn Testimony

If it is Lucas’ declaration, it can be admitted, no problem.

It, however, can’t be used to admit the alleged Kenyan birth certicate (and that’s where the action is).

  29. AXJ says:

So if it is in fact signed, admitted and Smith acts as a witness before the Court and in sworn in and confesses that the document is true will that give the Court enough cause to ORDER a copy of the original? Then all that has to be proven is that Mr. Barack Hussein Obama II was in fact born in Kenya and therefore is not a natural born citizen of the United States and therefore not eligible to occupy the Office of the President…a lot of steps here…first is establishing competent jurisdiction over the subject matter after it has been established that all parties have been properly served, that the previous Judge was too technical and biased in this case, and that judicial review and discovery is necessary to resolve this case. Again, with the fact that FOX and AXJ will be present in the Court Room and filming the Judge will sure be careful. He represents the Law and nobody is above the Law, not even the President of the USA?

  30. If it weren’t for outrageous claims, misinformation, faulty logic and outright lies, I wouldn’t have a subject to blog about. I’m not going to bite the hand that feeds me.

  31. AXJ says:

Mary Brown: Thank you. I feel some people here are not interested in anything but throwing insults. Name calling is idiotic even though many have been guilty on occasion. But when name calling replaces and attempt at logic it is time to say enough.

Totally agree Mary. You sound like a rational person. Simple Question: Do you think Americans have a right to know the background and history of their President?

  32. AXJ says:

Doc, see I told you, the American People don’t like censorship, I mean “moderation”.

Guess they are reliving 1776 and want to take control of their government again and not the other way around.

Now you know why AXJ is #1 on google…

  33. milspec says:

AXJ: So you too have decided to apply OBAMA type censorhip [sic]?

If it were my board I would have banned you and your ISP.

  34. You seem to be confusing this blog with the government.

Type “obama conspiracy theories” (with or without the quotes) into Google and see what comes up first.

it certainly don’t sound like what the whiners want, not a good omen for Orly. no evidence will be accepted.

  36. Mary Brown says:

I know enough. So do voters. This president led an early life that was a bit unusual I suppose. Some people have used that to attack his mother, his family and to create a conspiracy that reads like poorly written fiction . There is nothing in that life that precludes him from the presidency. On the contrary, I believe his background gives him insights many who do not share his varied background lack. As far as what people need to know, the Constitution answers that. He needs to be a natural born citizen which he is. I do not need to see his school records any more than I would need to see John McCains had he won or Senator McCain’s disciplinary records from the Navy. I find particularly offensive the attacks on his family-they are dispicable and cowardly.

  37. misha says:

@Mary: We know more about Obama, than we knew about Bush, or Nixon, or Johnson.

He wrote two autobiographical novels, which is more than any other president who comes to mind. As a black family, they were scrutinized more than previous candidates and their families. If those people disrupting town hall health care meetings were black, they would have been arrested and prosecuted.

Unlike Bush or McCain, he did not have a Wonder Bread upbringing. I think that gives him greater empathy, and has a more sympathetic audience around the world. I believe he will be re-elected, and I will actively support Booker if he announces – as I did Obama.

  38. jtx says:

    Mary Brown:

Why is it you pretend it is a “conspiracy” of some sort to believe Obama should prove he is legally eligible to hold the office he now occupies since neither he nor anyone else has ever done so?

  39. jtx says:

    misha:

All we “know” is what he’s chosen to publish in his books and those are known to be full of misinformation. You think a pack of lies qualifies as demonstrating some sort of eligibility – and if so for what? The GrayBar Hotel, perhaps?

  40. racosta says:

  41. Greg says:

It can’t be a conspiracy, you guys would have to be a lot smarter to be a conspiracy!

Now, I could believe that Orly is a plant to discredit the Republicans. That would be a good conspiracy.

  42. AXJ-CANADA says:

Hi all, I am a member of AXJ Chapter in Canada and have heard the news. We do you want to ban our members? We want to know the truth just as much as all of you.

  43. AXJ-CANADA says:

Sir, here is the house of Mr. OBAMA. The escrow papers regarding the purchase are very revealing.

    http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/5046-S-Greenwood-Ave-Chicago-IL-60615/50904051_zpid/

  44. racosta says:

    no you don’t!

  45. AXJ-CANADA says:

Why do you think this? I just cannot understand why Mr. OBAMA is hiding all his documentation?

  46. richCares says:

who was banned, your statement is false!

  47. nbc says:

All we “know” is what he’s chosen to publish in his books and those are known to be full of misinformation.

Guess you make up ‘facts’ in other cases than just eligibility?

Wow. Life must be so simple in ‘your world’…

  48. AXJ-CANADA says:

I read from a fellow member that someone was moderated and then banned. I read it on the main website.

  49. richCares says:

I read from a fellow member that someone was moderated and then banned. I read it on the main website.

stop lying, no one was banned!

  50. Lupin says:

    Bravo!

  51. Lupin says:

I would have no problem with outright banning of AXJ, JTX, etc. I see no reason why lunatics should be given a megaphone.

  52. misha says:

I read that Orly Taitz signed herself in. I never read any denial from a family member.

  53. Paul Pieniezny says:

Greg: It can’t be a conspiracy, you guys would have to be a lot smarter to be a conspiracy! Now, I could believe that Orly is a plant to discredit the Republicans. That would be a good conspiracy.

The Cult of the COLB (to use its name in August 2008, which seems very old-fashioned now) has always been a conspiracy theory, because for what the true believers allege to be true, there would have to be a vast conspiracy of government officials and other people, usually thought of as integer . (in this case, many of them being Republicans) Sometimes understanding the definition of “conspiracy theory” gets complicated because there is a conspiracy theory WITHIN the conspiracy theory. I have suggested many months ago that Orly may be a Soviet KGB sleeper reactivated by Russia to discredit the Republicans. She’s not only raising doubts about Obama’s legitimacy in a way that makes all the birthers look like fools, she’s also doing her best to make all court cases fail. Now, did Orly first appear on the Cult of the COLB scene before or after the South Ossetian War? Of course, Putin may have known about McCain’s involvement before the war actually started. Alternatively, Iranian and Russian news media have blamed Netanyahu and Lieberman for the entire BC controversy (started by Phil Berg, remember him?). Orly as a Soviet spy would mean that she is indeed very cunning, Orly as an Israeli agent would mean that she is indeed nuts. You take your pick.

  54. No one is banned. One of your fellow members was making a nuisance by posting a large number of short messages, some insulting, and some trolling. Now they are moderated.

  55. AXJ-CANADA, you and your US compatriot keep mentioning these Escrow papers, but have not provided a link to such papers. How are they interesting?

  56. Mary Brown says:

He has proven it to the satisfaction of the electorate, the electors and Congress. That is all he needs to do. If you believe laws for proof of eligibility need to change, write your Congressman or form a group to lobby. Again, your conspiracy is to overturn an election you did not like.

  57. Mary Brown says:

I comment under my own name. Why don’t you? I need to know whose agent you are. What are you hiding, foreigner? Why are you interfering in the affairs of my country? You, not the President are the ineligible one.

  58. Mary Brown says:

I am happy this individual is going to court with this forged document. If I could be, I would be there. You people remind me of Henny Penny. Ready to believe anything, and wander about in great crisis when the “crisis” is created in your imagination.

  59. misha says:

Wonderful Paul. If you noticed I once wrote that maybe she is a double agent with the KGB/Mossad.

I think there is a simpler explanation: she is a refusenik. Refuseniks Avigdor Lieberman and Sharansky also go in for crackpot politics.

You should listen to Israeli right wingers. They’re as bad as their counterparts here in the States. You should hear their invective at me.

When I was unfairly reprimanded at work, the only ones to come to my defense were a Catholic emigré from Germany, and a Palistinian.

  63. Translation – “Hi, I’m another AXJ Sockpuppet!”

  64. Bear in mind that if Lucas appears in court, his past documented history as a con-artist and previous attempts at fraud ALSO go on the witness stand.

    He’s hardly credible.

  65. I need to find and read that affidavit. I can’t see the guy perjuring himself.

  66. The AXJ and AXJ Canada posters come from different IP addresses. (I didn’t look to see if one was in Canada.)

  67. In future, give a hyperlink to claims like this.

  68. AXJ says:

How do you know the document is forged? Are you a forensic scientist now. Mary you have been talking a lot of smack lately and know very little of People, cultures, and the LAW, Roman Law at that. I practiced Law in Europe for 20 years and can’t believe the crap people are insinuating and saying all the time.

Can you prove Barack Hussein Obama Senior actually married Stanly Ann Dunham? Thought so.

Do you have either of their DNA to prove either was Obama’s parents? Thought so.

All the evidence we have in this case is a guy that is going to swear he was given a supposed birth certificate in a Hospital in Mobassa, Kenya. It is now up to the Judge to decide to open discovery and find out if the document is true and authentic. Internationally it is called a comision rogatoria or A Letter Rogatory or Letter of Request is a formal request from a court to a foreign court for some type of judicial assistance. The most common remedies sought by Letters Rogatory are service of process and taking of evidence. So just imagine how long this process will take, and Obama knows it…Plus his cousin will stop any investigating…now the divorce decree, that is a different matter…

  69. Can you prove that you practiced Law in Europe for 20 years?

One may reasonably infer the marriage of Dunham and Obama from their divorce. The President’s birth certificate says Barack Obama Sr. was the President’s father.

DNA? The dad’s body is in a grave at Kogelo village in Kenya. Go get one of your AXJ-Kenya folks to dig him up if you like.

  70. misha says:

    Here’s the hyperlink: imfrommars.ma

  71. What you’re missing.

This moderation business is a pain. I’m not your mama, and I don’t like deleting messages. Nevertheless I have deleted a dozen or so messages from AXJ. Here’s a sample:

    “It’s in the Bible…”

It fits the thread, but it adds nothing to the discussion (of whether the antichrist is left handed). WHERE in the Bible? AXJ claims to have Ann Obama’s Passports, Obama’s passport and bunch of other things. Well, so long as there are no links and no citations and no evidence, such remarks are going in the trash.

I recognize that I allow the same junk from some other posters, but the volume from them hasn’t reached the nuisance level.

The AXJ-Canada poster, by the way, posts from the same US city as the other AXJ. The IP addresses are not the same, but the two may well be sock puppets. They certainly sound like sock puppets.

  72. richCares says:

they got the passports plus proof that the moon landing was a hoax and the Kenyon BC is real and Judge Carter is the savior. They are not sock puppets they are a joke! It would be nice if they were gone.

  73. Mary Brown says:

Thanks, Misha. I am not computer savy, and am just beginning to understand some of how people have identities or not or have several identitiies.

  74. misha says:

“I am not computer savy, and am just beginning to understand…how people have identities…”

A person could use two different e-mail accounts, and so would have two different identities. One would be with gmail and another with yahoo.

Or a person could have two ISPs. He could have Verizon DSL and a cheaper dial-up, both at home, and that would give someone two different IP addresses. Or someone could make some posts at home, and other posts at a library. That would give two different identities.

Here’s one example: I had dial-up. When I had the stroke (at 49), my wife’s employer let her telecommute from home, for a full year. She’s an accountant, so that was easy. While I was in a coma, she had Verizon DSL installed, so she had higher speed, and could use the ‘Net and the telephone simultaneously. So for an overlap of one month, our loft had both. So if she used Verizon, her computer had one IP. If she used dial-up, her computer had a different IP. There are also hacker programs that can give diffenent IPs for the same computer.

At one time, I did some low level hacking. For a short time, some dial-up ISPs were free, in exchange for an advertising box. So I went into the ISP folder on my hard drive, and deleted the ad box. It was almost as fast as DSL after that.

See how much fun you can have with computers?

  75. That hyperlink takes you to an article here PLUS your comments. So whatever you say may end up on the AXJ page.

  76. jtx says:

    Paul Pieniezny:

The only “conspiracy” is the one you Enablers are engaged in to try to keep a man in office who has never shown himself to be eligible to hold the office he not occupies.

It’s not a BC matter as has been pointed out many times but merely an eligibility issue – and more and more it’s getting to look like he ain’t!!!

  77. JP says:

No. The document and the affidavit are meaningless. There is no chain of custody of the document. In order for a document to be admitted in court you need testimony from start to finish testifying to the truth of the document. You need testimony from the custodian of the record (the person who maintains the documents at their origin) for it to be admissible. It’s not admissible, as the foundation of the document has not been established. It’s all meaningless.

Funny how some people suspend all suspicion for every bogus forgery that gets posted on the internet, but a document that is produced by a State government that clearly states he is born in Hawaii (and an original, which is admissible in court, and prima facie evidence of birth in the US) is dismissed.

  78. jtx says:

    richCares:

Just think, all of this problem that troubles you so would go away if the Oborter would prove that he is legally eligible to hold the office he now occupies.

… or perhaps you could step up and prove that in a court of law???

  79. Oh, I have no doubt they’re playing games with IP addresses.

But I seriously doubt there’s more than one or two of them

  80. richCares says:

have you noticed that none of his hyperlinks cover what he says nor ever offer proof. like jtx, he is a liar. and like jtx, I will never respond to him.

  81. JP says:

A Letter Rogatory will be granted as long as it’s reasonably calculated to lead to discoverable evidence. The first supposed birth certificate took a whole of a day before it was proven to be a fraud. The second one, not even the World Net Daily will give any credit to. The phrase, “reasonably calculated to discoverable evidence” doesn’t mean you can keep throwing crap on the wall and hoping something sticks, particulary when there is a verified document, that is prima facie evidence of a Hawaii birth. It’s more likely Orly will get Rule 11 sanctions for failing to do proper evidentiary research before filing her “birth certificates” than getting a letter rogatory.

  82. AXJ says:

JP: A Letter Rogatory will be granted as long as it’s reasonably calculated to lead to discoverable evidence. She is basing it on a sworn affidavit, not the document itself. No it is up to the Judge to request proof from the Courts of Kenya. The best proof would be the divorce document in Hawaii dated 1964 which would include a copy of the birth certificate itself.

  83. Birth certificates are not normally part of divorce settlements (unless perhaps there was a dispute over paternity or something). The names and ages of the children would be stipulated by both sides.

  84. Still trying stuff.

I have added a voting system to the comments. If you like or dislike a comment, you can vote. Perhaps a down vote will help vent dislike, and reduce the number of replies saying the same thing.

If a comment receives enough negative votes (and I haven’t seen exactly how this works) the comment text is not displayed, although there is link to view it.

    We’ll how it works.

Authors cannot vote on their own comments.

  85. #1 on Google if your search for your site, maybe

  86. Remember, these are the same people claiming the Hawaiian COLB is a forgery based on the claims of an unknown, nameless, faceless internet “expert” who has never given any proof as to his training, identity, knowledge, or experience in such matters.

They would rather accept anything that supports their belief on blind faith, rather than check the evidence out for themselves.

And they accuse Obama supporters as being “Cultists”, which is irony right there.

  87. I have put the vertical scrolling comments back AND left the old Recent Comments. Take your pick.

Still looking for a better solution.

  88. The banning of AXJ.

I have decided to can AXJ. I routinely delete SPAM from the blog. Since I started, over 8,000 spam messages have been deleted, messages promoting everything from drugs to gaming, from make money schemes to get out of debt schemes. Up until now, the messages deleted as spam were not “customized” for this blog, but ones generically spewed to many sites running the same software.

Now comes AXJ, a spammer promoting AXJ, only in this case, with a wrapper tangentially related to the subjects on the blog. But spam is spam and AXJ was posting more messages than all the other spammers combined. If AXJ wants to say something, and I have no doubt he will, he can put it on his own web site (the link to which will remain on the Bookmarks page for anyone who is interested).
