Berg, in a press release today (November 26, 2009) wished everyone a happy Thanksgiving, and wrote that he is representing [should the need arise] Pastor James David “Show the dog gone birth certificate” Manning. Manning, head of ATLAH Ministries in New York, claimed he was visited by Homeland Security and the NYPD after he said in a public video that either Obama dies, or America dies.
Christopher Earl Strunk previously made an unsuccessful attempt to get a restraining order against federal agencies to prevent them from talking to Manning.
Birtherland is such a small country.

When I read things like this, why am I not surprised? In the past year and a half, I’ve watched the country vote for a man that they know literally nothing about. I’m not a real doctor, and even if I were, I wouldn’t diagnose people by remote control. Still we have seen some folks who are deeply troubled and hold birther views. The Reverend Kamal K K Roy comes to mind and some other folks who have posted here: rambling discourses, multiple conspiracy theories, apocalyptic world views and worst of all: bad spelling and grammar.
Some of these folks probably are, were or should be on medication for their mental disorders.
I have to be thankful for what I have, and remember that I am just a major head injury away from joining them. It must be profoundly difficult to be Dede, and I would not want to walk in her shoes for a minute. Because we cannot really know the people who post here, it’s not helpful to jump to conclusions. Detective Charlie Chan said that guesses were cheap, but wrong guesses could prove expensive. I think that’s good advice.

Pretty much by any objective measurement, the economy is improving. The stock market has rebounded sharply(remember 18 months ago most of us looked at are 401K’s and were thinking there goes our retirement), unemployment is starting to go down(during the Great Depression the general economy rebounded but employment increased much slower- the key is that employment is increasing) and consumer confidence is going up.
Still lots of work to be done though- there still needs to be comprehensive financial reforms- and I need to buy a house before the house prices rebound. I mention that only to point out that the housing bubble bursting is providing an opportunity for many of us to afford home purchase.

a) I don’t hate you- I hate your message, but I haven’t met you and as far as I know you haven’t done anything to cause me to hate you.
b) Think about this very carefully: If the government or Obama or the Trilateral Commision or whatever power you think is behind all the conspiracies is powerful enough to brainwash people through messages on the TV- why do they allow any comments like this on the internet? Think this through- the internet can be controlled- China does it pretty well- this type of comment would not be allowed there. So why does this omnipotent power go to all the trouble of brainwashing on TV- a fading medium- but allow subversive posts like yours? Think about it.
c) Really, really try and think about Jesus Christ and the Romans. Have you ever actually read the New Testament? Have you ever read about Roman history? Roman governments were incredibly corrupt- they were pretty much legalized corruption. And the Roman’s controlled Palestine and Israel. So how much of the New Testament is devoted to Jesus denouncing the corruption of the Romans? None. Why do you think that is? I mean no matter how corrupt you fantasize Obama as being, I guarantee you that the Roman’s were more corrupt, and they were the ‘federal government’ so to speak where Jesus lived. To me it is clear that Jesus didn’t care about governments or kings or governors- he was concerned about individuals and faith. Jesus would never have prayed that Obama die some horrible death. That is antithetical to Jesus’s teachings.
Personally, I think you are as confused about what being a Christian- especially a Roman Catholic is, as you are about everything else.
I strongly suggest you find a compassionate priest in your parish to sit and talk about your feelings with.

I’m impressed that you were allowed to receive communion from Catholic clergy. You must have been around very free-thinking people (and the Berrigan brothers certainly were that).
In the ’90s I was a faculty member at two Catholic universities (Franciscan and Christian Brothers) and became friends with many nuns, brothers, priests, and seminarians. They were all good people, but when I attended mass, it was always clear that as a non-Catholic, I could not take communion. I imagine that prohibition has only becoming stronger.
During my support for the UFW, I became friends with Mercedes, a Chicano, who was a UFW organizer. She was staying at a convent, and invited me to join them for Mass.
Same thing at the folk masses at Fordham. The Jesuits there were extremely liberal. You have to remember the Jesuits and the Catholic Peace Movement are unique.
Also, when Mass was said at the beginning of SVdeP, I was invited to join them.
Agreed. Actually, considering the extent to which the market collapsed and how near the meltdown came to total calamity, I’m amazed with how smooth and rapid the recovery has been so far.
Remember folks, this is the biggest financial meltdown since the Great Depression and here we are, less than 2 years later and things are holding together fairly well and so far, continuing to trend in the right direction. That’s a pretty significant turn around in such a short time.
Even unemployment, which is ALWAYS a lagging economic factor in a downturn, is fairly contained for an economic crisis of this magnitude.

There is no way to know what that was. It could have been staged by an opponent of Obama just to make an embarrassing video. It could have been made in South Korea. If you go to those other sites you mention, you may well find comfort in a community of people that think the same way that you do, but you will not find any truth there. Those places have a view of reality based on negative emotions. The scene from Star Wars comes to mind where the Emperor is trying to turn Luke Skywalker to the dark side: “Good. I can feel your anger….Strike me down with all of your hatred, and your journey towards the dark side will be complete.” If you go to a web site and it makes your hatred of someone grow, then you can be fairly confident that it is evil.
The truth will set you free; lies will enslave you. Your choice: slave or free.
As for this community, I think you are projecting. It may be that you think Obama is not eligible because you hate him, but most of us do not think he is eligible because we love him, but rather because it is factually true. Where do you see Obama praised on this web site? You do not see it. Where do you see Obama castigated, criticized and demonized? You see it in comments of folks who deny Obama’s eligibility. That should tell you something.

Agreed. Dede had already made up her mind. She prefers to believe the rantings of a felon like Larry Sinclair or a hatemonger like Berg and have them make up her mind rather than listen to other points of view. She hates the President and is willing to believe anything negative about him no matter what the source. So she would be better off at those other sites. The hate that emininates from those sites are obvious. I wish her all the happiness there among her “brand of patriots”….

It was interesting that senior tea partiers who were interviewed last week all seemed to like their Medicare and Social Security. They also were pretty fond of police, firemen, highways, schools, etc. They just don’t like paying the taxes required to fund those things.
They also like their welfare….

They thought it would be a learning opportunity for their children, who range in age from 9 months to 15 years old and who held up signs criticizing the government for defying the “will of the people.’’
“The problem in this country is that too many people are looking for handouts,’’ said Valerie Shirk, 43, of Prospect, Conn. “I agree with the signs that say, Share my father’s work ethic — not his paycheck.’ We have to do something about the whole welfare mentality in this country.’’
For the Shirks, it was a day for their children to seek inspiration from Palin and the other speakers, who questioned Obama’s patriotism and at least one of whom referred to him repeatedly as Barack Hussein.
The couple, who rely on Medicaid for their health care, were also upset about the nation’s new health reforms.
When asked why her family used state-subsidized health care when she criticized people who take handouts, Valerie Shirk said she did not want to stop having children, and that her husband’s income was not enough to cover the family with private insurance.
“I know there’s a dichotomy because of what we get from the state,’’ she said. “But I just look at each of my children as a blessing.’’
