Terry Lakin’s book deal

According to the Terry Lakin Action Fund website, Lakin is writing a book, to be titled “Officer’s Oath,” assisted by Jack Cashill, author of the anti-Obama book Deconstructing Obama and numerous articles smearing Obama on the tabloid website, WorldNetDaily. Cashill’s involvement doesn’t bode well for Lakin’s book, and frankly signals to me that there’s now little or no hope for Lakin to return to a normal life.

A lengthy article on the upcoming book from Christian Newswire and reprinted at Earned Media stated:

In addition, the handful of Terry’s detractors have been dwarfed by the mountain of supporters. Not all agree with his methods, but none have faulted his commitment to the Constitution, the Truth, and his oath as an officer in the US Army.

I must say that reading the comments by servicemen at Military.com, I think this quote is backwards. Outside of a handful of hardcore birthers, I don’t think anyone respects Lakin’s weak-minded acceptance of birther propaganda or his attempt to become a hero by committing professional suicide.

I think Lakin was a fool to fall in the birther trap; he was a fool to let that liar Paul Jensen represent him; and he is a fool now to let the same people who encouraged him to ruin his career continue to use him as their poster boy giving aid and comfort to the enemies of the United States.

Called it! A book deal, the classic stepping stone to a run for office. He will next relocate to some ultra-right district currently represented by a soon-to-retire Red Congressman. Have to establish eligibility, er, residency.

  2. US Citizen says:

Are you surprised he wasn’t rehabilitated?
    This is a martyr.
He was before, during and afterward.
Even if he had changed his ways, the only people telling him he’s great are birthers.
So either it’s no money, no job and no purpose or remain… you guessed it… a martyr.
Being told you’re great by loonies is still better than not being told you’re great at all.

“he was a fool to let that liar Paul Jensen represent him”

I was wondering about that too. Did someone’s dog bite Lakin?

    Does your dog bite?
    No.
Ow! I thought you said your dog doesn’t bite.
    That’s not my dog.

  4. ZixiOfIx says:

So… has Mr Lakin given up on his military appeal and is asking to be mustered out quickly, or he’d like another disciplinary hearing… or he just doesn’t care it, or what, exactly?

Profiting from his court martial while he is still in the service and has an active appeal is a really bad idea.

  5. Bovril says:

I think the titlle needs work, what about

    “Chasing the Blue Falcon”
“Orders, we don’t need no steenking orders”
“You had your chance…How to converse with a Medal of Honor holder”
    “Delusion”
    “Hey Dude….Where’s my Pension?”

  6. Lupin says:

Lakin is a creepy-looking self-serving traitor who’s now going to cash in on his betrayal.

  7. I don’t claim to know about the birther financial infrastructure, but I sincerely doubt he will realize much if anything from the sale of this book.

Lupin: Lakin is a creepy-looking self-serving traitor who’s now going to cash in on his betrayal.

  8. Bovril says:

He sure as hell won’t make back the loss of pension amount, well unless he tries to do a Corsi and randomly sue some organization in the hopes of recouping non existent sales……

  9. ASK Esq says:

I wonder of whoever it was that made the bulk buys of Corsi’s “book” will help Lakin by doing it for his book as well.

  10. Ballantine says:

Bovril: I think the titlle needs work, what about“Chasing the Blue Falcon”“Orders, we don’t need no steenking orders”“You had your chance…How to converse with a Medal of Honor holder”“Delusion”“Hey Dude….Where’s my Pension?”

    How about these:

“How I listened to Idiot Birthers and Lost My Career, Pension and Freedom” or

“How I Let My Country, My Unit and My Family Down”

  11. Bob says:

He’s a drama queen. He reminds me of the straight-laced nerd who falsely confessed to satanic rituals involving children because it created some excitement in his life.

  12. Phil Cave says:

LTC Lakin’s appeal is still pending before the Army Court of Criminal Appeals. As I’ve noted elsewhere he has a straight-faced argument that his conviction on the missing movement should be reversed. After ACCA (IMO) denies his appeal, he can petition the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. Probably not going to get a grant, IMO. Ultimately I think he will be stuck with his dismissal. So, does he have any other options? Discharged service-members routinely seek to “appeal” their discharge. However, a discharge or dismissal from a general court-martial is handled a little differently.

    Here is 10 U. S. Code 1552

    (f) With respect to records of courts-martial . . . cases tried or reviewed under chapter 47 of this title (or under the Uniform Code of Military Justice . . ., action under subsection (a) may extend only to—

    (1) . . . ; or

    (2) action on the sentence of a court-martial for purposes of clemency.

Any book or other out-of-court statements will have no bearing on his appeal. However, they may have a bearing on whether or not LTC Lakin might later get “clemency” on his dismissal. One of the things my colleagues and I always try to find for upgrade petitioner’s is “evidence of rehabilitation” and “acceptance of responsibility” and doing more than the good life. Interestingly, “public service” is often a help in getting an upgrade. But, I don’t think what LTC Lakin would “qualify” as the type of helpful PS Iooked for by the Board. Now as a practical matter such “upgrades” are often very very difficult to get, so as a practical matter he may not be giving anything up and prejudicing the future. But, . . . . .

  13. Rickey says:

I think that it is safe to say that Lakin’s book will not be a selection of the Military Book Club.

  14. Daniel says:

Dr. Conspiracy: I don’t claim to know about the birther financial infrastructure, but I sincerely doubt he will realize much if anything from the sale of this book.

Maybe Farah will bulk-buy it too….

Oh wait, it’s not actually a WND book, so Farah won’t be making any money from it directly.

    Nevermind

  15. jahHG says:

Wow………what an Idiot with a capital I this Lakin guy is.

  16. Gary Miller says:

Lakin, Corsi, Cashill, Farah … birds of a feather.

Hey Terry, said Farah, don’t stop now. There’s big money in birtherism!

    Shame on them all!

Agreed! I felt that way about him then and his actions just confirm it further. No sympathy for the fool. He intentionally put himself into the mess he’s in and he’s unrepentent and not going to change his ways…

Dr. Conspiracy, I wanted to thank you for your eloquent and informative information about this issue. In my own research regarding the contrived eligibility issue, I find myself on your site frequently. Please keep up the good work.

Regarding the book deal, I’m disgusted. No doubt, WND or some other right-wing conspiracy advocates will purchase the book in bulk to create the impression of a bestseller.

As one who has done my four years in the Army, I can say that Lakin probably lost the overwhelming bulk of whatever goodwill was extended to him when he was ordered to appear before Colonel Gordon Roberts, the only Medal of Honor recipient on active duty today, and sent his brusque, disrespectful reply, “You had your chance.”

That should have been sufficient to put a less than honorable end to his career right there, even forgetting his additional crimes.

As a participant on the Terry Lakin Action Fund facebook page (and a known detractor), I took the opportunity to explain this detail to the Lakin-lemmings, and to Terry Lakin (who, I am told, reads everything on the page) I told him exactly what I said above about his insubordination, and I also said that whenever he addresses Colonel Roberts, no matter what he says, he is to include the appropriate honorific. To him, Colonel Roberts is “Colonel” or “sir.” (That’s what Jack Nicholson told us in “A Few Good Men.”)

My My. Isn’t this a surprise. Terry wants to write a book (destined for the 99 cent stores).

He pleaded GUILTY at his court martial and actually stated a little remorse, that he had used bad judgment, was led astray by others, etc.

Why would he appeal his own plea of guilty? (Presumably, the answer to that question is: The guy is a first class loon).

I have zero respect for the guy and think he should have his medical license revoked for refusing orders to treat the wounded in Iraq

His real problem is Non-native borns. Please note his WIFE is non-native born. Hmmm. Sounds like a deep seeded problem to me. I believe she is Filipina.
