Sheriff Joe press conference live at 3 PM EST today

Obama Conspiracy Theories will be joining a number of other web sites carrying the live feed of Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s press conference this afternoon, where he says that he will present the results of his investigation into Barack Obama.

Arpaio has been rather coy about the results of his “cold case posse’s” findings, supposedly sharing only them with presidential candidate Rick Santorum. I think it likely that while Arpaio is unlikely to have actually found out anything that is not already well-known, his presentation today will likely will reflect the innuendo-ridden petition presented to him by local Tea Party members under the guidance of anti-Obama smear author Jerome Corsi. As they say, “garbage in, garbage out.1

1”Garbage in, garbage out” is the likely title of my article following the press conference, if it turns out the way I think it will.

Hard not to believe WND doesn’t know some garbage will be coming out since they’re streaming the dumping AND emailing the Posse’s report to readers today.

  2. JPotter says:

sactosintolerant: Hard not to believe WND doesn’t know some garbage will be coming out since they’re streaming the dumping AND emailing the Posse’s report to readers today.

… to highly gullible readers. WND is using it to collect addresses. They get all their return up front, positioning to get paid for nothing, as usual.

WND has a history of televising fail. Remember the epic 4(?)-part press conference from last summer?

Surely they know exactly what will be said, probably scripted. And they surely believe it will serve their interests.

If it is actually live, extemporaneous in anyway, the hilarity potential skyrockets.

Better yet, if their claim of media response (always BS in the past…) is true for once, and a Q/A session breaks out,* this could be a new instant classic, the new birf of the year!

    * I predict no/extremely limited (respectable) media response. There will be Q/A, but once again uninteresting because, well, who cares. I do hold out some hope that the local media will show in force, and some of Arpaio’s loudest local critics will show up loaded. But would they be “allowed” to speak?

  3. John says:

I hope Sheriff Joe’s report is what birthers are hoping for. It could be a washout. Still, I think Sheriff Joe could report that Obama is not an NBC. As I said, I do suspect that Mario’s 199 page brief may very well be based on the Cold Case Posse analysis of NBC and if Obama is one. Mario merely modified it to use for the Kerchner Lawsuit. We will have to see.

  4. I think that it is much more likely that the Kerchner tome is derived from the previous writings of Mario Apuzzo, for example the “milk” example appeared on his web site February 8.

A wild guess popped into my punkin’ headbone early on this glorious March morn:

I’ve been saying either he claims the president is ineligible (which would generate a lot of MSM coverage for the birther issue again) or he says it needs more investigation and a look at the original vault copy yadda yadda …

Now I think the trick is to pass the buck. He’ll announce that they looked at this and they looked at that, and they can’t rule that he’s eligible because there are too many questions and the “evidence” isn’t conclusory one way or the other, and he’ll refer it for further investigation to the Arizona attorney general and/or the U.S. Attorney’s office for the District of Arizona.

That way he doesn’t alienate the entire birther movement by refusing to take any action at all, but he doesn’t have to issue a warrant or try to arrest the president. He took it as far as he possibly could, poor bunny, and now it’s time for the higher authorities to step up and complete the investigation.

You read it here first, unless it doesn’t come to fruition, in which case it was just a guess.

    John:
Still, I thinkSheriff Joe could report that Obama is not an NBC.

Which means as much as some anonymous Internet user reporting it… still, I doubt
he goes into the realm of Constitutional and case law interpretation. I’d hope he has at least limited the posse to: Hawaiian birth… yes or no?

  7. Scientist says:

John: I hope Sheriff Joe’s report is what birthers are hoping for

Wouldn’t the patriotic thing be to hope that everything the birthers believe is false and hope that Sheriff Joe confirms that? Those who don’t like Obama would still be free to vote for his opponent, but wouldn’t the country be better off if they made the choice based on real issues?

  8. donna says:

“A November 1st article stated that Corsi ‘spent 18 hours over a two-day period in Arizona briefing the Cold Case Posse on a wide-range of evidence regarding Obama’s eligibility’.”

the DEBUNKED corsi gave them a “briefing”?

    lol

  9. Bob says:

This will be as exciting as when WND flew the banner over a closed dome stadium.

I suspect Arpaio is promoting WND in exchange for their support during the US Justice Depart investigations.

On Corsi’s Facebook page and on Birther Report (ORYR), there’s a clear consensus emerging that Breitbart was brutally murdered as a warning to Sheriff Joe. Also because he said at CPAC that he had video of the president in college, which everyone knows must be proof of his Marxist Muslim terrorist tendencies. The CIA can shoot a poison dart into you that mimics a heart attack and dissolves to become untraceable.

    😯

  13. Gary Miller says:

One thing is certain: Sheriff Joe will not say anything that could bring the birther gravy train to an end.

  14. G says:

The “pass the buck” strategy might well be his best “weasel” option….

It sort of takes Trump’s “you won’t believe what they’re finding” pandering lie to a whole new level – maintaining the false suspicioun *AND* being able to cut bait and dump it on someone else…

Foggy: A wild guess popped into my punkin’ headbone early on this glorious March morn:

I couldn’t find a mention of the press conference in today’s Arizona Republic, at least not in the online version. The Phoenix New Times is covering it, though.

  16. G says:

Yes, I agree that would be the real patriotic hope. However, the modern GOP is sadly all about casting spurious doubts. I highly doubt a noble and honest outcome. They need to find some way to perpetuate a smear, while yet trying to weasel out from their own personal responsibility for propagating the smear at the same time…

Scientist: Wouldn’t the patriotic thing be to hope that everything the birthers believe is false and hope that Sheriff Joe confirms that? Those who don’t like Obama would still be free to vote for his opponent, but wouldn’t the country be better off if they made the choice based on real issues?

  17. G says:

MSNBC made several mentions of it last night (the Ed Show) and in the past hour today. In both cases, they have mentioned it along with discussing the Eppley challenge filed in AK and pointed both Arpio’s “investigation” and that situation as blatant indicators of the latent racism underlying the ODS that is out there.

Alex Wagner just did a searing set-up of Arpaio’s news conference, connecting him as part of the same spectrum as Epperly. I was going to say they’d have to claim the ME is in on the “plot,” or will release a fake report of death by natural causes because they “got to him.”

BUT… I wasn’t prepared for how clever the Birfers are: they are getting very good at pre-explaining why no evidence for their claims will be found in the future.

Who killed Georgi Markov? Secrets of the Dead. Dead from ricin:

    Umbrella Assassin | PBS – http://www.pbs.org/wnet/secrets/previous_seasons/case_umbrella/index.html

“In early 1978, Markov began receiving telephone death threats. In the last call, in August 1978, a man told Markov that he would die…killed by a poison the West could not detect or treat.

Markov was at a parking lot…in London, where he always caught a bus across the bridge to go to work at BBC Headquarters. At the bus stop, he felt a sharp stinging sensation in the back of his right thigh. When he turned around, he saw a man bending over to pick up a dropped umbrella. The man, who was facing away from Markov, said “I’m sorry” in a foreign accent, then hailed a cab and left.

Markov was in pain, but went to work and told his colleagues what had happened. He noticed a pimple-like swelling on his thigh, and some blood on his jeans. That evening, he developed a high fever; by the next day, he was having trouble speaking. He was admitted to the hospital, where doctors initially began treating him for septicemia, or blood poisoning. Over the next several days, his body began to fail: his blood pressure collapsed, he began vomiting blood, his kidneys began to die. On the morning of September 11, 1978, the conduction system of his heart — the ‘pacemaker’ that regulates the beating of the heart’s atria and ventricles — failed. His heart stopped. Georgi Markov was dead.”

Already getting bored. I was expecting more stuff on SSN or suchlike. Seems Corsi simply wanted his BC theories resurrected.

Also, it’s funny that allegedly the investigation tried mainly to “refute” anti-Birther arguments (including red herrings like “OCR”).

And finally, we still have non-experts “experimenting” with documents and calling that “findings”. Yup, I just hope suspects in Maricopa County don’t have such non-experts looking at forensic evidence and making “conclusions” as to who should be arrested or, worse, put before a judge.

I was wondering if anyone asked whether the posse asked to see the physical copies of Obama’s short form or long form (or both) birth certificates, the ones on security paper that Obama had shown to FactCheck, Politifact and to the White House Press. To be sure, they do not have a right to see them. But they could at least have asked.

Otherwise all they are doing is discussing the software images.

If they had asked to see the physical copies and been turned down, that would indicate something. But apparently the did not even ask.

If they had asked to see the physical copies and had been granted that right, then they could have had them checked by members of a recognized document forensic organization. But that is impossible if they only discuss the software images.

They are taking questions at the conference, is there any way to get this question asked?

  148. The Magic M says:

That’s all they want to discuss. They are artificially limiting this to “the PDF was forged” (and hope this somehow turns into “the (certified copy of the) birth certificate was forged”.

They are not interested in stuff they know they’ll never get, this is just Corsi’s attempt to rehash his old arguments and sell more books. I wonder if Joe gets collateral…

  149. Paper says:

Savannah Guthrie touched it. It would have been a nice rebuttal if a reporter had thought to mention that, but they were nonetheless hammering away at the incompetence on display here.

Then I don’t get it. What does the 2nd amendment have to do with that?

justlw: The new part to me was the whole “carved stamp” thing. Has that been covered here before?

No, but I’m not sure it really matters if the SS registration was created with Photoshop or by using a physically manipulated stamp, at least not to the real world.

The really new part to me was the “we have a witness who was introduced to Obama as a foreign exchange student by Ayers” story. Must be another one of Corsi’s anonymous super witnesses.

And I missed Mara Zebest, wasn’t she announced to be talking as well?

  152. justlw says:

Paper: It would have been a nice rebuttal if a reporter had thought to mention that

That’s the problem, of course: there’s so much crazy that can be laid out that very few people are prepared to rebut.

I just saw the 2009 Joy Behar interview of Orly yesterday. It was one of Orly’s best performances — she was ready for everything Behar was going to ask, and Behar only had heard maybe 30% of what Orly was laying down. Anyone not fully steeped in birfer madness might have walked away with open questions.

Since this wasn’t a trial, there was no opportunity for informed rebuttal. Funny that.

  153. misha says:

The Magic M: Reporter: “What about the fact that his mother is American?”
Moustache guy: “That’s a 2nd Amendment issue, I’m not gonna comment on that.”

2nd Amendment: As ratified by the States and authenticated by Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of State: A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Moustache guy was talking about the Sharron Angle interpretation of the 2nd: “I’m hoping that we’re not getting to Second Amendment remedies. I hope the vote will be the cure for the Harry Reid problems.”

  154. John Woodman says:

Obviously, he meant that’s an Article 2 issue.

  155. justlw says:

The Magic M: The really new part to me was the “we have a witness who was introduced to Obama as a foreign exchange student by Ayers” story.

If I heard this correctly it was not by Ayers — he was introduced by Ayers’ mother — “in Ayers’ yard.” Saying where makes it even more real!

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that Ayers’ mother is no longer alive to weigh in on this.

  156. ellen says:

Re: “Savannah Guthrie touched it. ”

Yes, I know that. But with all the allegations that the officials in Hawaii are lying presumably they would allege that she did too.

So, the question remains, why don’t YOU ask to to see the physical copy and take it to accredited document forensic experts?

They could say: “We did not think that they would show it to use, and of course we don’t have the right to subpoena it.” But the answer to that is that it is perfectly legitimate as part of an investigation to ask someone to submit evidence voluntarily, and the fact that you didn’t simply shows that you were not being thorough.

  157. justlw says:

Scientist: So is he giving this to Cong. Issa? Isn’t this really in his turf?

Why? Is there something that needs to be mysteriously destroyed in a fire?

  158. Rob A says:

John Woodman: Obviously, he meant that’s an Article 2 issue.

Obviously, however a birther would cut no slack to a non-birther making a similar mistake…

I’m not saying he’s an illegal immigrant. I’m not saying he’s mashed potatoes. I’m not saying he shouldn’t be president. I’m not saying anything really. I’m just saying, if it’s forgery and fraud, and we have these people saying it is, and if they themselves are not frauds, well, you see, I don’t why you’re saying the President shouldn’t be president, I’m not saying that, I’m saying if it is a forgery, someone should do something about that, show me something else, not a birth announcement in the newspaper from 1961, no not that, something else, that’s all I’m saying. I’ll apologize, I love apologizing. Just show me the same papers Rick Santorum showed me when I spoke to him the other day. I ask and people show me their papers. I don’t even have to ask. People just show me. I’m that kind of guy. I didn’t ask for this. This is not about politics. I don’t know what it’s about. But if it’s forgery, then that’s a crime, that’s my job. That’s what people tell me. I don’t tell them anything. They tell me. Don’t ask me why they put this forgery on the internet. We’re not talking about motive. We’re talking about a crime, and somebody should do something about that. I’ll be interested to know what I decide about that. You should check back with me later. Or just ask Mr. Corsi what I think. Skip the middle man.
