The following story is from 2011, but it’s making the rounds again.
Birther attorney Stephen Pidgeon has a “new” book out called The Obama Error in which he claims that he found a record for a name change from “Barak Mounir Ubayd” to “Barack Hussein Obama” on October 14th, 1982 in Skookumchuck, British Columbia. The interview in which Pidgeon says this is titled “Obama Changed His Name in Canada?” but Ubayd is the one who changed a name. Assuming for the moment that the story is true, what possible relevance does it have to the President who was born Obama and never lived in Canada?
However, we don’t have to assume. After extensive research, Obama Conspiracy Theories has tracked this story to its roots, and learned the stunning truth:

Pidgeon also says that Obama ran for the Senate on the Socialist Workers Party in 1996 (this was hushed up). (Maybe it was the “Satirical Workers Typos.”)

A Birther informed me yesterday that Obama originated as a part of Operation Mockingbird — a CIA operation from the 1940’s (according to him).

I’ve been to Skookumchuck. It has a year ’round population of less than 100, and no court or registrar.
Even if one could figure out WHY Obama would go to Skookumchuck to change his name, it would not have been possible for him to do so.
It’s interesting that some birthers seem to have no problem with that birth certificate in spite of the fact that is lists “Egyptian” and “Ethiopian”as the races of the parents.

Daniel, the registration of the name change did not take place in Skookumchuch…That is the name of the town Barak gave as his place of residence…..The registration paper is from Victoria, the capitol of British Columbia…
Personally I think Steven Pidgeon is a smart enough attorney to have checked out the registration paper in Canada….It is a possibility the german site is a cover up…
I think from Obama’s own words he changed his name to Barack Hussein Obama when he return from Pakistan in 1981….As I see it his name was Barry Soroto until he returned from Pakistan…And then he changed it to Barack Hussein Obama.. Of course he would have covered his tracks by using a fictious name of Barak Mounir Ubadi…..Using the name Barry Soronto would be a dead giveaway that he was adopted and any prior citizenship forfeited and therefore he is not a United States citizen…

Barack Obama was not adopted, and even if he was, US Law (see Perkins v. Elg) would have prevented him losing his US citizenship and Indonesian law would have prevented him from acquiring Indonesian citizenship. See:

I’ve been having this same argument with Leonard Daneman on Amazon who keeps making random claims like Berg hired an indonesian law firm to explain indonesian law. Not seeing any references to that anywhere. He then is making claims based on the 1945 constitution I think referring to a part that states: “State citizens of Indonesia include: (viii) children who are born outside of legal marriage from foreign State citizen mother who are acknowledged by father who is Indonesian State citizen as his children and that acknowledgment is made prior to children reaching 18 years of age or prior to marriage.”
However; Soetoro was never the birth father. Daneman seems to think as long as Soetoro acknowledged it that somehow it automatically made him his son and an indonesian citizen.
