If you’ve spent any time looking at the Twitter feed on this site, you no doubt will have seen many tweets from @birtherheadline. This source has been collecting and disseminating news by and about the birthers for several months now and are a good source of leads for folks like me who try to keep up with what’s happening.
Commenter Thinker here pointed out that @birtherheadline has changed from reporting birther stuff to actively attacking and insulting them. Here’s one of the few tweets I can reprint without going PG-13:
Well, i’m sure not sorry a birther lost his 15 y/o dog. It’s an old dog owned by an old birther – both led privileged lives.
It may not have been readily apparent, but @birtherheadlines was never a birther sympathizer, not at all; however, the account presented a neutral point of view on twitter and its web site.
Well, something has happened. First, the old Birther Headlines web site is now “invitation only” and has been replaced in the twitter profile with an openly-insulting (to the birthers) site, birtherheadlines.com, that just redirects to a page headlined:
Dear Birthers: You’re Idiots
I’d say that there are two possibilities here: 1) birtherheadlines has been hacked [] by an anti-birther or 2) Birther Headlines was a lure from the start to get lots of birther followers before telling them that they are stupid. Neither of those is particularly appealing as an explanation. There’s no internal Obot chatter on the subject in my emails.
On the hacking theme, I note that one web hosting company reports heavy brute force attacks against WordPress web sites. That might be why this site has been a little show lately. This site uses a strong random password and keeps all software versions at the latest levels.
To quote one of my favorite movies: “I’m an old man… filled with regret.”
I haven’t looked at the birtherheadlines aggregator site for a long time, so I can’t comment about that, but the birtherheadline twitter account was definitely not neutral. It retweeted the most vile lies about Obama–Sandy Hope conspiracy stuff, insults about his wife and children, articles about who his parents were. Some of it was automated, but the person behind the account was clearly interacting personally with the despicable losers whose stuff he/she was retweeting.
As I understand it now, the person behind birtherheadlines is an Obama supporter who was spreading these vile lies in an attempt to make Republicans look too extreme, or to get maintstream Republicans to slap birfers down once and for all.
Very strange. It reminds me of that Shel Silverstein song from the 70’s movie Free to Be You and Me, “Some kind of help is the kind of help helping’s all about. And some kind of help is the kind of help we all can do without.”
It also broadcast this site.
I still have a few Obama conspiracists as clients, friends or acquaintances.
I now proudly have an emotional detachment to them, regardless of the fact that they might issue a paycheck to me. I tell it to them sraight and like it is without fear they will retaliate by terminating my paycheck.
That being the case, today I got a clue…Obama haters are going to start complaining “if the day has come that we have no right to criticize the President, this is proof that we are indeed living in some fascist state, and this is proof the end of the world is coming!”
I laugh at them now and tell them there is a huge difference between criticizing a man and calling him an abomination and/or the anti-christ.
Moral of the story: don’t call your politics religion.
America: You have a right to spew vile anti-Government nonsense, and other citizens have a right to call you out. You call that censorship because you’re stupid.
Fascist State: You spout valid criticism of the Government, and they cut your tongue out of your head. You are never seen in public again.
I dunno… I say there’s a difference.
I originally thought that @BirtherHeadlines was a birther site until I realized that what they tweeted were the titles of posts on birther & anti-birther websites. Whenever I would tweet something in reply to one of Orly’s headlines that @BirtherHeadlines had posted, they often RT’d my response. It took me awhile to realize that they were anti-birther but I think they always have been and just recently took the gloves off or, just possibly, have been hacked. I think the former is more likely since it’s been trending this way for more than a few days now.
Taitz still thinks they are proudly announcing her “press releases” but she’s never been known to be aware of what’s really going on around her. She’s lost in a world of her own where she’s adored by millions of birthers, dreaming about the day she’ll be granted discovery and be allowed to depose President Obama. She’s actually referred to this allegedly upcoming day and said that she’d “pull all the punches” when questioning Obama. Typical Orly with her mangling of the English language and common idioms.
> Well, something has happened.
Indeed. I had several conversations on Twitter with the guy over the past months and he was usually very light-hearted and humorous about birther issues.
He seems to be a lot more uptight recently, even basically scolded me for still wasting time answering birthers as in “if everybody had ignored them, they’d have been gone long time ago”.
I don’t know if it’s somebody else running the show or if something happened that made the guy become much more angry with birthers.
