Yoho signs on to birther “distraction”

I’m reading about this at Talking Points Memo. Republican Representative Ted Yoho at some unidentified meeting said something about supporting some kind of something by Representative Steve Stockman in some way related to investigating President Obama’s birth certificate. The audio clip was posted by Right Wing Watch.

Despite saying he would support it, Yoho called the investigation a “distraction.”

[Insert here snarky remark about Congressional Republicans being primarily interested in distractions rather than their real job.]

    Makes sense to me.

“You want to discuss my political misdoings you say? OH LOOK! A distraction!”

  2. Thinker says:

The Yoho audio is all over the interwebs. Yesterday’s Right Wing Watch post about it highlighted the unfunny joke he made about the tanning services tax in Obamacare being racist because non-white people don’t go to tanning booths. Some people could probably make that unfunny joke without seeming racist, but a RWNJ who is also pushing birfer BS cannot.

I love that the birfer part of Yoho’s response contains the “we can go birther and nullify his whole presidency” nonsense. In case any sane people had not yet figured out that Yoho is an embarassment to the people of his district and the US Congress, that absurd assertion will certainly convince them.

    SQUIRRELS….!!!!!!

  4. CarlOrcas says:

Congressman Yoho has been in office for seven months. He doesn’t have enough clout to get anything more than a free ride in the “Members Only” elevators.

His latest gaffe is that he thinks the tanning bed tax is racist because only white folks get tans:

    Moron humors morons.

They seem to be excited about this in birther land, though. They’re simply desperate for any sense of affirmation.

  6. john says:

I take credit for Ted Yoho. I asked him last week to contact Steve Stockman about the Obama Fraud. Although Yoho like all the congressmen tried duck the question, he did say he would contact Steve Stockman and made his Chief of Staff note it. Apparently, Yoho has kept his promise about contacting Stockman.

  7. gorefan says:

I’m reposting this from the Zullo scam thread.

What’s interesting about Rep. Yoho’s comment is that last week the brither known here as “John” posted a comment at ORYR that he had cornered Yoho at a tea party gathering and asked him about Stockman.

    http://obamareleaseyourrecords.blogspot.com/2013/07/mike-zullo-updates-obama-id-fraud-case.html

    “John 1 week ago

Met with Congressman Ted Yoho of Florida about Obama’s birth certificate. Told him to reach out to Congressman Steve Stockman of Texas. Stockman is close friends with Ted Yoho. Yoho said he would contact Steve Stockman about Obama’s forged BC. Please call Congressman Ted Yoho of Florida and tell him to look into Obama’s forged BC.”

    And

    “John 1 week ago”

“Yoho had the usual demeanor when you ask any Congressman that question. Seemed to want to ignore the question. However, when he did hear that Steve Stockman was involved, his interested peaked because Stockman was a good friend of his. He said he would contact Stockman personally about the issue. Yoho’s Chief of Staff, a young girl, seems to know much more about it. She said everyone up in Washington pretty much knows that Obama’s BC is BS but she said its very tense and tricky issue to deal with.”

John is not the most honest of birthers but I believe him. And it dovetails with Rep. Yoho’s comment.

It’s going to be fun to watch Stockman transform from birther hero to Birther Enemy #1 in the coming weeks, as he tries to shake the stench of birtherism from his walking corpse.

Did you discuss the racism of tanning booths with Yoho?

Oh…..how about Doc’s story on the situation with the posse vis a vis the IRS? Have you spoken to Zullo yet about why he hasn’t filed 990’s?

    Keep us posted, john.

  11. Benji Franklin says:

john: Apparently, Yoho has kept his promise about contacting Stockman.

YES! YES! YES! Yoho has apparently kept his promise about contacting Stockman! YES! YES! Oh, Obama is done for now, isn’t he? Was the contact by paper airplane messaging? Who cares? Stockman is on the case! Oh, this is better than if Obama had lost both Presidential elections!

Golly, this is better than if we actually had evidence against Obama that was sufficient to charge him with a crime – any crime! Oh, the humanity! Oh, the Shawn Hannity! This is big! Bigger than a hair-cut! Oh, John, how I wish you had any analytical expertise at all so you could articulate additional conclusory allegations about Obama that made you appear to be insane AND thoughtful!

Still, this is almost as big as Tim Adam’s vague recollections about what “everybody knew” in Hawaii, and almost a big as the point value of the word “forgery” if Carl Gallups was playing Scrabble with Mike Zullo, but certainly in any case, bigger than two full terms in the Presidency for Obama, which pale in comparison to the heart-stopping prospect that Steve Stockman will him-haw around for a few days before issuing a firm, noncommittal piece of graffiti revealing the fact that he knows of no real evidence of document fraud against Obama.

  12. alg says:

Well, it’s clear to me that Yoho was caught off guard by the question, didn’t fully understand it at first, then stumbled around trying to not answer it without offending the asking party and other supporters in the crowd.

  13. richCares says:

john appears locked into this “fraud bc” silly story. he is emotionally joined at the hip with Zullu the clown. That is really sad, can you imagine the effect this has on his miserable little hate filled life. He could increase his life span by just dropping the birther junk, poor guy. Can you imagine the misery he gives his family.

  14. gorefan says:

alg: Well, it’s clear to me that Yoho was caught off guard

I don’t read it that way.

The original question had nothing to do with Stockman or birth certificates or even President Obama. It was what type of correspondence has the most influence on him (letters, e-mails, phone calls, etc.). He answered the question and then volunteered the birther stuff.

  15. Dave says:

There is a recent series of posts at ORYR about Stockman and his mysterious bill, and it took me a while to figure out that they had no basis in any communication originating from Stockman. They are just based on this brief part of a town hall meeting by Yoho.

Far as I know, since Stockman attended the whackjob sheriff conference, he neither said nor done anything about the birthers’ issues. But the birthers have somehow convinced themselves otherwise.

  16. Jim says:

Dave: But the birthers have somehow convinced themselves otherwise.

Zullo and Gallups keep promoting Stockman like he’s sign, sealed and delivered. That way, when he doesn’t do anything, they can blame the Congressman…then ask for more money.

Well did you hear Gallups last excuse on Friday? He mentioned they’ve been getting a lot of questions about the Stockman interview on the show that never happened. Gallups tried to claim Stockman’s flight was delayed. Then they had a scheduling snafu because Stockman said he was calling into the show anyway but Gallups already had Zullo on and didn’t want to bump him. He now says that Stockman’s schedule has been swamped since that time and he hasn’t had a chance to reconnect. Someone is avoiding gallups and zullo

  18. BatGuano says:

What probably happened is that Yoho asked Stockman about it, and Stockman said something along the lines that he would like to do “something” about it, and Yoho, being a novice in Washington, assumed that Stockman was thinking about introducing a bill.

Of course there will no bill. Unless there is one, in which case it will never get out of committee.

Incidentally, Stockman committee assignments are House Committee on Banking and Financial Services and House Committee on Science, neither of which would have investigatory power regarding Obama’s eligibility. Likewise, Yoho’s committee assignments are House Committee on Agriculture and House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

My Congressman, Rep. Lou Barletta, is being added to the VIP list for the Stockman supposed bill over at ORYR. I’ve sent his office an e-mail asking if they were aware of the association. I pretty much said that I hope it wasn’t true and to let me know if it was or wasn’t. I said that I understand that he and his office need to address the ‘concerns’ of all of their constituents and I hoped they could allay my ‘concern’ that my Congressman was associating with, or even taking any ‘birther’ claim as legitimate. I’ve asked for a reply so will post it should I receive one. I’m also going to call or drop my his local district office. Should be fun.

perfect. stockman will get the banking committee to subpoena tony rezko while the science committee subpoenas dna from the entire obama-dunham-sotoero-marshall-shabazz family tree. the agriculture committee will finally expose acorn while foreign affairs turns kenya upside down looking for the original birth records.

after five long years things are finally getting moving.

  31. Dave says:

When you look at the detaiils this list of three is pretty interesting.

Stockman listened to a presentation by Zullo. Since then he has said nothing on the subject.

Yoho made the comments discussed above, including the allegation that Stockman will introduce a bill that has something to do with this — a bill Stockman himself has said nothing about.

The ORYR headline says that Barletta heard a presentation from Zullo, but the article they link to says his staff heard the presentation.

So that’s their mighty army. I find it notable that only one of the three has made any statement at all on the subject.

The only one that has gotten a vote is his lone amendment (No. 15), which was defeated big time (137 for, 286 against). So far all of Rep Stockman’s legislative efforts are sitting dead in the water. Meanwhile, the birther crew breathlessly await the supposed addition of yet another Rep to his still unintroduced bill. While, as my broker cautions me before making an investment, past performance is no guarantee of future results, I feel safe in predicting that anyone holding his breath over this risks terminal asphyxia.
