I’m curious to know when y’all think Karl Gal-Oooops and Mike Zoo-lowe will be releasing their new fiction novel about their antics over the past year? Will “john” be first in line at the local 7-11 store to get an autographed copy? Will they send Doc a copy for his reference? I think they should.

  2. justlw says:

A recent comment on the discussion page for the WP article on Barack Obama conspiracy theories:

The unmentioned connection between the Obama administration and the Molokai airline (Makani Kai): Most of the revenue of Makani Kai is from the Obama administration, in the form of an exclusive two-year contract of $932,000 per year. http://www.hawaiibusiness.com/Hawaii-Business/March-2012/Cheaper-Now-to-Fly-into-Kalaupapa/

So this is a very exciting revelation! A year after Obama releases his clumsy forgery of a web page illustration, he realizes it isn’t doing the trick, and the only way to put this behind him is to do someone in, in a way that will be needlessly attention-grabbing. The word goes out: “subsidize the route from Kalaupapa to Honolulu!” The trap is set, and it only takes another year and a half for the jaws to snap shut.

Conclusion: Any time there’s been a death associated with anything federally funded in the last few years, a birther gets his tinfoil wings.

It’s only going to get worse. There are about 150 airports covered by the EAS (Essential Air Service subsidies. The possibilities are now endless….endless I tell you!!

  4. Lupin says:

I found Fox’s recent near-hysterical resistance to the notion that Santa Claus could be anything but white a Rorschach blot-like illustration of the basic birther notion that the US President couldn’t be anything but white.

I’m sure they also think God is white.

This, once again, demonstrates that racism is at the core of the birther movement.

  5. The Magic M says:

Lupin: I’m sure they also think God is white.

Of course God must be white and male (a female god would’ve created woman first, then man from her rib). But we all know who wrote these fairytale stories…

  6. There is the story of the Klansman who arrived in heaven after a deathbed conversion. St. Peter told the fellow that they were about to meet God: “Let me warn you–She’s black.”

I think their answer will be a resounding “…who are you?”

  10. The “World Tribune” has republished its July 8, 2013, nonsense about Mike Zullo under the banner of “Greatest hits of 2013.” Given the accuracy of the article, I think “greatest misses” is a more appropriate category.

FWIW, I’m not sure if this has been discussed yet.

Brooke Paige filed a Motion for Reargument with the Vermont Supreme Court. Mario is listed as his advisor.

    http://www.scribd.com/doc/190256398/Paige-Vs-Vermont-and-Obama-Motion-For-Reargument

He wants them to clarify his position on NBC and to reconsider their mootness argument. His arguments on mootness aren’t terrible but he really goes off the tracks with the arguments for why the Court needs to render a decision on the meaning of NBC (44 through 48).

Item 6 and 7 are my favorites where he blames the appellees for making his case moot.

Poor birther fools need a better hobby. Too much spare time. Zero common sense.

  15. Crustacean says:

Visiting relatives in NY for the Holidays, I had to chuckle at what I read on the front page of this morning’s New York Times: Cornell professor of law (and friend of the blog 🙂 ) Michael C. Dorf was quoted in reference to the same-sex marriage kerfuffel going on in Utah.

I guess he’s recovered from his failed plan to pay (Dr. Evil voice) ONE MILLION DOLLARS for Obama’s Kenyan birth certificate, and has somehow managed to move on with his life.

Item #1 is pure unadulterated rubbish. The alleged “Vattelian model” simply does not exist, other than in Mario’s twisted imagination.

Not only there is no evidence or source they could quote to bolster their ill-conceived notion, but it has already been debunked by the Congress Research Office (or whatever it’s called).

I don’t know the legalities of placing such a document before a Court but were they to actually consider what it says, they would find it erroneous right from item 1.

Mr Paige was here a while ago, if I recall correctly, and struck me as a well-intention, mild-mannered, gullible idiot.

Remember the “Highlights” magazines in the waiting room at the dentist’s or doctor’s office? You know the one. The magazine would present a picture and the goal was to find all of the hidden objects in the picture. Seems to me, Zoo-Low, his magic forgery and the whole birther crew are hidden in a huge puzzle picture. Fortunately for the observant, it’s not too difficult to find them all and see that their “evydunce” makes little sense, is biased and will eventually expose the Zoo-Low crew for what they are. Hopefully, this embarrassment will all end soon.

  18. CarlOrcas says:

Curious George: Remember the “Highlights” magazines in the waiting room at the dentist’s or doctor’s office? You know the one.

Yes, indeed. It’s way beyond to comprehension level of most birthers.

  25. Crustacean says:

Yesterday’s Birther Report offered up the gripping tale of Mike Volin and CDR Charles Kerchner’s visit to Congressman Charlie Dent, to whom the dynamic duo had “personally presented the information contained in the Sheriff’s Kit in September in a district office. [Oberleutnant] Zullo had joined the session by telephone. Volin said the meeting lasted ‘almost two hours,’ with Dent’s communications director also in attendance.”

[O.M.G. the Big Guns! I could fee the drama radiating from my laptop’s monitor]

“He asked question after question… ‘Why didn’t John McCain do anything about this?’ I said, ‘Excuse me, congressman, but this information wasn’t available when McCain was running.’ ‘Why didn’t Gov. Linda Lingle do anything?’ ‘Well, she did, but her health department director, Chiyome Fukino, said that it was ‘half-typed and half-handwritten.’ The next governor, Neil Abercrombie, said he couldn’t even find it. When we played the part about the Selective Service stamp forgery, he said, ‘I’ve never seen this,’ and I said, ‘Well, congratulations.’ ”

[Double OMG!! The tension by this point is building to a crescendo. Finally, the wheels are in motion! This is Universe Shattering! Obama’s days are surely numbered now!]

“Anyway, five weeks after giving him the presentation, his answer was he ‘believes Obama is an American.’ ”

Oh, snap! Not exactly the “Soylent Green is people!!” moment the birthers are looking for. I think being a birther must be akin to being eternally trapped in a prison cell with nothing to do but read an endless stack of mystery novels, with the last page of each one torn out.

  26. CarlOrcas says:

    Dr. Conspiracy: whinge

I believe what you see is what you get.

This sort of stuff is nothing new. We used to get a similar package or two every week when I was in the news business. Some were big international deals, others were local fantasies. One I recall involved some South Pacific islands.

You name the conspiracy and some poor soul has taken the time to put together page after page (often single spaced with no paragraphs and lots of CAPS) of copy describing in painful detail the dastardly deed they (and usually they alone) have managed to uncover.

I kinda miss the smell of mimeograph fluid in the morning mail.

  27. gorefan says:

    Crustacean: Obama is an American

Apparently, they have not figured out that ‘he’s an American citizen’ means that he has a real, legitimate birth certificate.

It looks like Congressman Dent has looked at the sheriff’s kit and decided it is a crock.

  28. gorefan says:

Dr. Conspiracy: Is there a secret version of the kit?

I don’t think so. In the latest article is this about their September visit to Congressman Dent’s office,

“For 45 minutes, the congressman asked him questions, and Mike Zullo gave him information that nobody has heard before. It should have opened his eyes.”

So some of the super secret evidence must not be very compelling.

Andrew Thomas, Lisa Aubuchon, and Rachel Alexander have been ordered to pay back $101,294 in restitution for the cost of their disciplinary proceedings.

Thomas, a former Maricopa County Attorney, and Aubuchon, his go-to deputy, were disbarred last year in high-profile proceedings that followed several years of intrigue and corruption committed with Sheriff Joe Arpaio. A three-member panel that included the state’s Disciplinary Judge, William O’Neil, found that Arpaio and Thomas launched unethical attacks on their county political enemies with the help of Aubuchon.

  39. Arthur says:

Praise God– there’s another RWNJ march in the works that is certain to be just as efficacious as Larry Klayman’s colossal success!

An inspired group of Constitution-loving patriots want to eviscerate the Constitution in order to “save the republic” i.e., establish their version of a right-wing dictatorship. It’s called Operation American Spring and D-Day is May 16, 2014 in Washington, D.C.

    https://www.facebook.com/events/579896202096261/?source=1

According to the organizers, “OPERATION AMERICAN SPRING will be a gigantic step in removing the flea infestation that is sucking the blood out of America.” Ah, comparing those you hate to bloodsucking parasites . . . I know I’ve heard that metaphor before, but where? http://www.calvin.edu/academic/cas/gpa/weltparasit.htm

These “We the People-ers” are calling for 10,000,000 patriots, some of whom will undoubtedly be “killed, wounded, or incarcerated” to “assemble in a non-violent, physically unarmed (Spiritually/Constitutionally armed), display of unswerving loyalty to the US Constitution and against the incumbent government leadership, in Washington, D.C., with the mission to bring down the existing leadership.”

Oh, I get it! To save the Constitution, you’ve got to destroy the Constitution! Makes perfect sense. And how will this process of salvation begin?

“One million or more of the assembled 10 million must be prepared to stay in D.C. as long as it takes to see Obama, Biden, Reid, McConnell, Boehner, Pelosi, and Attorney General Holder removed from office. The senior republican in the US House of Representatives will become Speaker of the House and the US House of Representatives will elect a temporary President and Vice President of the United States. The U.S. Senate will take action to elect a new majority and minority leader.”

    But wait, there’s more!

“As required, the U.S. Congress will execute appropriate legislation to convene new elections or U.S. States will appoint replacements for positions vacated consistent with established constitutional requirements.”

Sure, that all sounds perfectly legitimate. And constitutionalish. Just like the following:

“Those with the principles of a West, Cruz, Lee, DeMint, Paul, Gov Walker, Sessions, Gowdy, Jordan, Issa, will comprise a tribunal and assume positions of authority to convene investigations, recommend appropriate charges against politicians and government employees to the new U.S. Attorney General appointed by the new President.”

And to any who think this smells a bit Third-Reichish, don’t be alarmed. The organizers are assured that “all actions . . . will be consistent with the U.S. Constitution.”

    What a relief!

And why did it take so long to produce this full sheet? The ‘better’ footprint image was foisted on us many weeks ago. And why is the resolution still so low, only 904×1242 for a full page? Goodness, what a mystery.

This modern certificate, which is issued after copying information from the official register to the form, was for a birth in 1983. There is an important item, “Name and Description of Informant,” which appears also on Obama’s Hawaiian certificate, but is missing from the Smith certificate.

What a nice job of research and a very plausible story…..certainly more plausible than anything birthers have managed to dredge up.

It rings true with me because of the parallels in my family’s past:

The family name was changed when my great, great grandfather went into the Union Army with his German name and came out with it translated, literally, into English. Ours is the only branch of the family with the new name and others with the original name remain in the eastern U.S. and Canada.

My father’s family disappears from the 1920 census but fortunately they were in a small town and I was able to find all the original enumerator’s sheets and discover that he/she had simply transposed a couple letters in the family name. From that I assumed the enumerator may have been from out of town since my grandfather was the local mail carrier and owned a couple businesses in town…..a well know fellow.

This, of course, is the American way…..which Orly and her ilk don’t seem to understand.

previously i posted: Cruz Taking Steps To Renounce Canadian Citizenship (above) and included the address for the request

    NOW canadian lawyers are responding:

Sen. Ted Cruz still citizen of U.S. and Canada

Richard Kurland, a Vancouver-based immigration attorney, wonders what’s taking so long. Kurland said Friday that unless there’s a security or mental health issue that hasn’t been disclosed, renouncing citizenship is a simple, quick process.

“If he’s attempting to bring our system into disrepute by suggesting it’s lengthy and complex, it’s just not true. Revocation is one of the fastest processes in our system,” said Kurland.

Stephen Green, an immigration lawyer in Toronto, was equally perplexed.

“It’s not complicated at all,” said Green, whose firm, Green and Spiegel, reached out to offer help to Cruz at one point but never received a reply from the senator’s office.

“They make sure you understand what you’re doing, that you’re not going to become a stateless person, and then you’re rock ‘n’ roll, and good to go. I would assume that if he’s retained counsel, this could have been done by now.”

Canada’s best-known citizenship renouncer, media magnate Conrad Black, said in an e-mail Friday that it “doesn’t take long” for the revocation process to work.

He added Cruz may come to regret the move.

“He’s making a mistake; he’ll never go higher in the U.S. electoral system than he is now, and Canada’s a better governed country than the U.S.,” said Black, who gave up his Canadian citizenship in 2001 in order to accept a peerage in the British House of Lords.

James M: I did not know it was required to give up Commonwealth citizenship in order to serve as a Peer in the House of Lords.

    From Black’s Wikipedia article:

    Peerage controversy and citizenship
    Main article: Black v. Chrétien

In 2001, British Prime Minister Tony Blair advised Queen Elizabeth II to confer on Black the dignity of a life peerage with the title of Baron Black[n 4][77] Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien gave the opinion to his government’s nationality department that a Canadian citizen should not receive a British titular honour, citing the 1919 Nickle Resolution. Black at the time held both Canadian and British citizenship. After the Federal Court of Canada ruled against Black in his suit against Chrétien, Black renounced his Canadian citizenship in 2001, remaining a citizen of the UK. In a May 2012 interview with Peter Mansbridge, Black said he will consider applying for Canadian citizenship “within a year or two” when he hoped the matter would no longer be controversial and he could “make an application like any other person who has been a temporary resident.”[78] The decision to grant or reject his application would be at the discretion of the federal Cabinet.[79] He has been on Leave of Absence as a peer following release in May 2012.[80]

His full life peer style is Baron Black of Crossharbour in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

Interesting that the Canadians don’t let Canadian citizens take British titular honours but the Australians do let Australians take such honours. The Aussies don’t recommend British honours anymore, but they don’t refuse them if offered.

FYI, the phrase ‘following release in May 2012’ refers to this indiscretion:

In 2004, a shareholder-initiated prosecution of Black began in the United States over $80 million in assets claimed to have been improperly taken or inappropriately spent by Black.[4] Black has publicly maintained his innocence since the original indictment.[5][6] He was convicted of three counts of fraud and one count of obstruction of justice in a U.S. court in 2007 and sentenced to six and a half years’ imprisonment. Two of the charges were overturned on appeal and in 2011 he was resentenced on the one remaining count of mail fraud and on the one count of obstruction of justice to an amended prison term of 42 months and a fine of US$125,000.[7] Black was released on May 4, 2012.[8]

NBC has an interesting summary of some research by Fogbow poster Fre into Orly Taitz’ great white hope to bring down Obama, Harry Bounel. This research suggests that the Census record is in error as to spelling and to the exact age of the person.

The real name is Harry Boymel, born in 1886, with SSN 080-18-6078 (nothing like Obama’s).

That is excellent work, and quite convincing. Harry Boymel’s SSN has a New York prefix, which makes sense since he was living in New York when Social Security was enacted in 1935.

We long suspected that the entry in the 1940 census was wrong because the census taker got her information from Harry’s landlord and never spoke with Harry (Paul Lentz at The Fogbow has identified the enumerator as Laura Amerlio). It looks like the landlord guessed at his age. I was pretty certain that Harry’s surname was not Bounel, but it never occurred to me that the third letter in his name might be a y.

I see telephone listings for 17 people in the U.S. with the surname Boymel, including one in Brooklyn and one in Potomac, MD. Potomac is a suburb of D.C. so that person could well be one of Harry’s descendants.

The next step is to request a copy of Harry Boymel’s SS-5 and confirm where he was living when he applied to his SSN.

We have some clarification on Harry’s address, courtesy of some genealogy specialists at The Fogbow.

Everyone has read the 1940 census as having Harry at 915 Daly Avenue in the Bronx, which is a non-existent address. However, if you look at the previous page in the census book, you’ll see that the enumerator was actually taking the information about Harry and his landlord’s family at 915 Elsmere Place, which is adjacent to Daly Avenue. It isn’t yet clear to me why the enumerator wrote “Daly Avenue” on the page which contains Harry’s name, but other records have been found which confirm that the landlord, Louis Julius, lived at 915 Elsmere Place.

Kreep’s stint in traffic court ends

‘Birther’ judge was sent there after prosecutor complaints

Kreep will start a new assignment in Department 7 in the central courthouse, handling a full calendar of landlord-tenant disputes, according to a court spokeswoman. He’ll also handle some civil cases that relate to landlord tenant disputes as well as credit card debt cases.

Since September, Kreep has been assigned to traffic court. He was sent there after prosecutors with the San Diego City Attorney’s Office complained about his decisions in some criminal cases, such as declining to order defendants to waive their constitutional rights to search without a warrant when prosecutors requested it.

There were also complaints about his judicial demeanor. Some lawyers said he could be condescending and short-tempered from the bench.

Being sent to traffic court was an unusual step, since those courts are usually staffed only by court commissioners, who are paid about 15 percent less than the $180,000 in salary a Superior Court judge earns. It was virtually unheard of to have a sitting Superior Court judge assigned to hear traffic infractions.

Kreep is best known as a longtime conservative legal activist who was a prominent figure in the “birther” movement, which questioned President Barack Obama’s citizenship by challenging whether he was born in the U.S.

The flight was only about a minute out before the engine failed.

I’m at a loss to understand what the time to failure after takeoff has to do with anything but…..wait….it gets worse.

In his letter to the court Vogt says “The large bang in the engine could have been from a small bomb used to disable the magnetos which would cause the plane to loose (cq!!) power immediately as it did.”

As I recall magnetos are used in piston engines to provide electricity to a distributor which then fire pistons sequentially. It’s been a long time since the technology has been used in cars and I don’t know if its used in airplanes but given the reliability of modern electrical systems I doubt it.

But…..no matter. Even if they are still used on aircraft piston engines that means nothing in this accident because the Cessna that crashed was equipped with a turboprop engine.

No pistons. No spark plugs. No sale, Mr. Vogt.

There could, of course, have been a bomb or bombs but the NTSB would figure that out pretty quickly…..unless they’re in on it or….or…..or there could have been a tube of time release Super Glue left in the engine and when it squirted the engine seized. Or…..or……oh….the nurse tells me it’s time to go to sleep.

  93. RanTalbott says:

CarlOrcas: I’m at a loss to understand what the time to failure after takeoff has to do with anything

The biggest strain on the engine(s) comes while getting the plane off the ground and up to cruising altitude. If there’s a weak mechanical component (corroded bolt, aging piston rod, etc), that’s where it’s most likely to fail. The timing of the failure isn’t probative, per se, because there are causes that are more likely to manifest later (e.g., an oil leak). It just gives you a rough indication of what the probabilities of the possible causes are.

Vogt is just using standard birther (non-)thinking: if it’s not impossible that something malevolent happened, and it relates to Obama in any way, it must be true that a Dirty Deed Was Done Dirt Cheap™

magnetos are still used in piston engined aircraft, normally 2 per engine

a normal part of the pre-flight checks is to set the engine revs to a set rate with both mags working then shut one down and check the rev drop is not below a certain limit (varies as to the engine used), the both on, next cut the othermag and repeat the check. it shows if both are working ok.

having 2 mags is a `belt and braces’ kind of thing. they are both used in normal flight, but if one fails there is still one operative albeit giving the engine reduced power.

gas turbines have an ignitor system in the combustion chamber, but never having flown any of them, i’m not sure if it works of a dual circuit as well but probably does given that a failure in flight can be embarrasing to say the least.

  97. True story. A fellow who used to work for a manufacturer of Jet engines told me of their ISO 9000 program to achieve repeatable manufacturing processes for their engines. Well, one of the engine blades separated from the turbine and blasted it’s way through the engine causing a catastrophic failure. So they analyzed their process to find out what went wrong. Nothing was wrong. It turned out that after so many hours of use, all of the engines flew apart the same way.

Aircraft industry frequently sacrifices innovation for reliability. Most of the engines in small planes were designed in the 1950s, and haven’t changed since. They work.
