The Joe Show: coming to cable

imageThe Investigation Discovery cable TV channel has acquired the documentary, “The Joe Show,” reported Discovery Communications in a press release July 9. In the documentary, Sheriff Joe Arpaio was caught on tape telling his campaign staff that the birther issue will bring in large campaign contributions.

The broadcast is scheduled for 5 PM EST on December 14 on the Information Discovery Channel in an abridged version (14 minutes cut). I have my DVR programmed to record it. It’s also scheduled to be released on DVD on December 16, full-length with bonus features.

But we got more with the coffee mugs and T-shirts “made in the USA”!

    Ha ha Sheriff Joe!

Color Me Skeptical: In the documentary, Sheriff Joe Arpaio was caught on tape telling his campaign staff that the birther issue will bring in large campaign contributions.

And I’m guessing about 1/4th of the Birthers who hear that tape and believe it is legit, will abandon the movement, or at least, publicly criticize the investigation.

But people like Mike Volin are LITERALLY all in on Zullo and Sheriff Joe.

I think that if Arpaio and Zullo came right out in public and declared that they had been scamming the Birthers for money all along and that there really was no serious investigation, Mike Volin would not have the integrity to admit that those two had fooled him, and then go on to denounce them.

Instead he would probably assert that Arpaio and Zullo had been intimidated into denying the investigation was legit.

Maybe, maybe not: there’s a lot of ambiguity in Arpaio’s statement, leaving room for significantly-differing interpretations.

As I said when the clip was released, it doesn’t work as solid evidence against Arpaio for fraud, because he could claim that the Birfer Bux would come in because he would be seen as the big hero, tackling The Crime of the Millenium™ that everyone else was afraid to touch. I expect a huge percentage of the remaining birfers (who already believe stuff that’s a lot less credible) to cling to that.

If you want to convince people it’s a scam, you need to catch him admitting he _knows_ that his BS is BS. And I haven’t seen him come close yet. Despite the fact that somebody must have ‘splained to him that the PDF is not a “government document”. Probably more than once.

Benji Franklin: Instead he would probably assert that Arpaio and Zullo had been intimidated into denying the investigation was legit.

We can expect to see a lot of that: already there are birfers grumbling that that’s the reason for the continuing delays in shattering of the Universe. When it finally dawns on them that it’s not coming, that’ll be the excuse of choice.

  4. Curious George says:

Several things make an impact in the film. One hundred and fifty deaths in his jail. Millions of dollars in lawsuits and payouts by the county. The campaign meeting discussion. All of this is wrapped up in a massive amount of arrogance displayed best in Arpaio’s own actions and words. Arpaio surprisingly calls the film “garbage.” By him calling the film “garbage” he seems to fail to realize that the film is simply a reflection of himself. What does that make him?

THE JOE SHOW, is an amazing film.

  5. alg says:

“The Joe Show” will only have a meaningful effect if Sheriff Joe decides to attempt another re-election run. In the meantime, count on Sheriff Joe to continue to pander to tea party birthers by telling them “I did my job, but everyone else is afraid to touch this thing.” It makes for good theater but even Joe knows it only plays with a fleetingly small portion of his constituency.

If he is arrogant enough to run again, he will be hammered relentlessly about his multiple failures, including his Cold Case Posse adventure.

“I think all but the “true believers” have already left the building.”

Will the last one leaving Birtherstan please turn out the lights?

  8. Jim says:

Andrew Vrba, PmG: I think all but the “true believers” have already left the building.

There are no “true believers”, there’s just a bunch of hateful people who can’t stand the President for whatever their imaginations can make up.

  9. The Magic M says:

RanTalbott: When it finally dawns on them that it’s not coming, that’ll be the excuse of choice.

Eventually, they will have to throw Arpaio, then Zullo under the bus. But I guess it will take longer if they can’t find anyone else to put their hopes in instead. Given their current talk, Zullo is their one last hope.

(My current bet is that Zullo will eventually just fall silent and birthers will become convinced he “was disappeared by the regime”.)

  10. RanTalbott says:

The Magic M: Given their current talk, Zullo is their one last hope.

And they’re starting to realize they don’t even have that, as even Congresscritters like Steve King (R-Bizzaro World) announce that they’d rather have colonoscopies on live network TV than talk about impeachment.

Shurf Joe loves publicity, but this is the kind of publicity that may not look so good to some of his supporters. Get some popcorn and let’s watch Shurf Joe’s popularity ride off into the sunset. Adios Joe.

But you gotta admit, no one points semi-menacingly slightly off camera, looking all constipated, quite like Shurfjoke.
Been mulling over meme-ing a bunch of his pointing photos, with fun phrases like “I said SMELL it!” or do a Shurfjoke “advice animal” kind of thing.

I’ve read that the DVD coming out this month will be full length + bonus material. Hopefully the bonus material will include more of the Arpaio campaign strategy meeting.
