6 years

It was six years ago today that the obamaconsipracy.org domain was registered and  the first article, “Barack Obama’s Birth Certificate is a Forgery – Part 1,” was published. Could it have been so long ago?

I’ve written enough retrospective articles already, so I won’t plow the same ground again, except to say that when I started the blog, I thought I would be done once President Obama was inaugurated in January, 2009. I was no better at predicting the demise of the birther movement than they were in predicting the demise of the Obama administration.

Doc, I stumbled across your blog several years ago after conducting some internet “research” in response to reading through a bulletin board forum discussion about the President’s birth certificate. I was grateful to find a fact-filled resource to help me counter the malarkey being shared by participants in that discussion forum. However, I must admit that I doubt I have ever been able to convince a single birther that they are engaged in a fool’s errand.

Thank you for doing this – this subject has been entertaining beyond measure.

    Regards,
    alg

agreed. i am also extremely grateful that doc has put together this phenomenal site.

when i first started i honestly ( and naively ) believed that birtherism was merely the result of people making opinions based on false information and that if you could calmly and relatively politely show them the facts their opinion would change. well….. i came up a little short on that theory but i have gotten a fascinating ( and entertaining ) lesson in the power of cognitive dissonance, mob mentality and the internet.

it’s been 6years of “the parrot sketch”.

  4. Rickey says:

I too naively thought that if it were pointed out that the birther theories are factually incorrect that the issue would go away. As I recall, the first issue I looked into was the supposed ban on Americans traveling to Pakistan in 1981. I went to the website of Pakistan International Airlines and found a photograph of one of the airline’s jets parked at a gate at JFK Airport in New York in the summer of 1981. Then someone found the New York Times travel article from 1981 which explained what Americans needed to know about traveling to Pakistan, and eventually someone found the 1981 travel advisory by the State Department which was just a recitation of Pakistan’s visa requirements and travel time limitations.

Six years later and I’m certain that there are still birthers who believe that Obama could not have visited Pakistan with a U.S. passport in 1981! Not to mention Mario Apuzzo’s lame insistence that there was a “de facto” ban on Americans traveling to Pakistan.

Anyway, kudos to Doc on the 6th anniversary of this blog. It’s been fun and highly educational.

They believe it because it is true. The appropriate place to look for verification of Obama’s travel documents issued to him in 1981 is the Consular Affairs Consolidated Database in Washington, D.C. and not on a blog.

You only have two years to go, Doc, and the then we’ll need to celebrate when we watch Obama leave office on January 20th, 2017 and watch Birther heads explode. 😛

    Today’s Highlights in History:

In 1816, Indiana became the 19th state.

In 1941, Germany and Italy declared war on the United States; the U.S. responded in kind.

In 1946, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) was established.

In 1980, President Jimmy Carter signed legislation creating a $1.6 billion environmental “superfund” to pay for cleaning up chemical spills and toxic waste dumps. “Magnum P.I.,” starring Tom Selleck, premiered on CBS.

In 2008, Bernie Madoff was arrested, accused of running a multibillion-dollar Ponzi scheme. (Madoff is serving a 150-year federal prison sentence.)

Five years ago: Tiger Woods announced on his website that he was taking an indefinite leave from golf to try to save his five-year-old marriage to Elin Nordegren. (However, the couple ended up divorcing in Aug. 2010.)

One year ago: Time magazine selected Pope Francis as its Person of the Year, saying the Roman Catholic church’s new leader — the first from Latin America — had changed the perception of the 2,000-year-old institution in an extraordinary way in a short time.

Well, why have you waited so long to obtain that information. I’m sure it would support birthers. Non?

    Potential outcomes of Sven Investigation:

1 – “It’s private information and you can’t see it Mr. Magnussen.”

Thus….proof positive everything about Obama is being covered up.

2 – “We looked, Mr. Magnusson, and there is no such record for Mr. Obama.”

Thus…..proof positive any information incriminating Mr. Obama has been scrubbed from records or altered in some way. (See birth certificate numbers and microfice of newspaper birth announcements.)

    Next question?

Hey Doc, Congratulations. I first came to this site a couple years ago just to reference “The Debunker’s Guide to Obama Conspiracy Theories.” Great resource! Since then, I’ve enjoyed, and learned so much from, your articles and the community of people who comment here. Thanks!

SvenMagnussen: They believe it because it is true.

Americans were free to travel to Pakistan in 1981, in fact they were encouraged to do so by the US Consul to Pakistan John S. Brims.

President Obama had his own US Passport which he used to travel between Indonesia and Hawaii on several occasions as a child.

The summer of 1971 (Dreams of My Father)

He used that US Passport to travel to Pakistan in 1981.

So Sven, where’s the naturalization certificate you used to harp on about, you have partaken of the open and accessible nature of the mechanisms that would allow you to request this momentous document….Haven’t you..?

Come along you’ve had YEARS to go and get it, what’s wrong with you, you an Obot..?

Sadly my mother is still a closet birther, but becoming more and more hateful. I hope she does actually start reading the Bible again. Sadly most self proclaimed Christians don’t actually do that.

Sven is a nutcase that claims to have legal and scientific authority, but doesn’t understand the simplest legal terms, and his math and science knowledge is laughable. He probably barely learned Algebra, and I still question that.

Even if they do, they only read what they want to read. “Remember “thou shalt not kill” was never intended to be applied to non-whites.” So there goes that.

Today’s celebrity birthday list says Ted Nugent is 66. No mention of the fact that he’s supposed to be “dead or in jail” by now.

ah! sorry, i forgot, that just shows what a failure the president is!
