I installed new security software on the blog a few weeks ago, and I must say that I am unsettled by what it’s telling me. A picture is worth, as they say …
These login attempts occur every few minutes, and just in the past 2 hours I’ve had 50 attempts from such diverse locations as:
- Chile
- Hungary
- Russia
- Belgium
- France
- Germany
- Brazil
- Mexico
- Denmark
- Iran
- Israel
- Poland
Yesterday we had performance problems due to excessive resource use by another user on the shared server where this site is hosted. At the same time the site was being crawled simultaneously by Microsoft, Baidu, Yahoo and Ahref.com.
This morning the site is currently being crawled by Yahoo, Baidu, Microsoft, and Google. I have added some entries to robots.txt to reduce the impact of crawlers through the exclusion of duplicative entries.
“I didn’t do it!” 😉
We also saw a surge of hacking attempts against Typo3 and WordPress installations yesterday (the sheer number nearly amounting to a DoS attack).
the germans are trying to navigate a sunken soviet nuclear submarine up the interwebz to blow up dr conspiracy!!!
I’d think the people who are negatively effected by Obama Conspiracies would be Americans, not foreigners. Hmmm!
(that was a joke, of course I realize these are all proxy servers.)
Oh my Gott, wir have been found out, quick, Schulz, kaputten der hardware! 😉
for a low price of $500,000 i can trace the hackers
i will require a nice hotel and decent food to be included as well
Don’t mean to imply you aren’t important or special – just noting that hack attempts are constant and typical. When I put a new dedicated or virtual server online, I’ll start seeing attempts on that box before I even have a domain name pointed at it.
It is just the state of the web.
Slow news day.
I won’t charge 500k to do it. But I will need to be at the server farm to do it and will require a good hotel, decent food, and a generous per diem.
By the way, my server farm is in Jamaica.
I also hear the best server farms run on raw hemp…
