Surprise! Tea Party Patriots hear from Joe Arpaio and Mike Zullo

The September 20th meeting of the Surprise [AZ] Tea Party Patriots featured Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and volunteer Cold Case Posse commander Mike Zullo. Birther Jeff Lichter in his introduction of Sheriff Arpaio gave a birther timeline blaming Barack Obama for the birther movement, saying:

[Questions about] Obama’s eligibility began with Obama himself! In a 2007 pamphlet from Harvard, which Obama approved regarding himself, Obama was Recorded as being born in Kenya.

As is often the case with birthers, the facts are not only wrong, but scrambled. There is no such pamphlet from Harvard in 2007, but there was one from a publicist in 1991, one which the publicist says was not approved by Obama. The timeline may be of interest to others. As for myself: tl:dr.

Arpaio himself made a non-specific affirmation that the birth certificate investigation is ongoing:

We are looking at a forged document and still stand by that decision They are still not done with it. How can you back down? Never forget, if you start an investigation you should complete it!

To this observer, Sheriff Arpaio is doing a piss poor job of completing his investigation, second only to Donald Trump’s ending the birther controversy.

Mike Zullo spoke next, and more specifically to the birth certificate investigation, dropping something that would be a bombshell if Zullo had any credibility:

They were assured by Kapalani (sic) Medical Center Head Doctor that Obama wasn’t born there The government uses electronics to produce fake  documents, so the only reasonable conclusion is that The birth certificate is fake. It is impossible to be real by their own admission.

I wasn’t able to make any sense of the logic there, as recorded in the minutes by Dale Brooks. Whoever this unnamed “head doctor” is (assuming there is one at all), it would be unlikely that he was at Kapi’olani in 1961, nor is it likely that anyone on the medical staff at Kapi’olani would be commenting now, given that spokespersons for the hospital said previously that their hands were tied by federal law regarding the privacy of medical records.

Zullo gave no hint as to when he expected to have his investigation wrapped up, who he will claim forged Obama’s birth certificate, and what constructive result will come out of his efforts.

“Whoever this unnamed “head doctor” is”

His name is Doctor Tari. Everyone calls him Doc Tari. [bada-bing]

  2. Keith says:

There was two of them. A pair o’ docs.

  3. JD Reed says:

Misha, I love your posts and it is great to have you back. But at the hazard of outing myself as not as bright as I would like to think, I confess I don’t get Doc Tari.

  4. Sam the Centipede says:

I think Mike Zullo’s “Head Doctor” was literally that: a psychiatrist who was indulging him in his crazy fantasies.

Actually, Fake Cop Zullo is such a liar, he almost certainly didn’t speak to anybody at all, just made up this crap with his best buddy, Lyin’ Carl Gallups.

And there is no investigation. We can be sure that Zullo is lying about that.

If Fake Cop Zullo had evidence of anything, he could have presented it in court instead of exploiting his fifth amendment right to avoid self-incrimination. Why would he incriminate himself if he spoke? Because he would either have to perjure himself or admit to his other lies. He is a liar and a coward.

  5. misha says:

Sam the Centipede: And there is no investigation.

We’re still waiting for Trump’s private investigators to reveal what they found.

MEREDITH VIEIRA: “You have people now out there searching– I mean, in Hawaii?”

Trump: “Absolutely. And they cannot believe what they’re finding. And I’m serious.”

  6. Curious George says:

I’m told that the Shurf and the faux lieutenant were not too pleased that the press showed up for the meeting.

  7. misha says:

Curious George: were not too pleased that the press showed up

    Just like Trump.

  8. misha says:

JD Reed: Misha, I love your posts

Does everyone like my sound effects? [bada-bing]

    There’s also this: [So sad]

  9. It’s a bit of ancient US popular culture.

JD Reed: I confess I don’t get Doc Tari.

  10. It is possible that Zullo used Dr. Hodges trick of mind reading between the lines, and when the person said that they couldn’t discuss it, Zullo concluded that there wasn’t a birth to discuss.

Sam the Centipede: Actually, Fake Cop Zullo is such a liar, he almost certainly didn’t speak to anybody at all, just made up this crap with his best buddy, Lyin’ Carl Gallups.

  11. The following was received from Brian Reilly in response to the notes from the STPP meeting discussed in my article

    October 9, 2016

Re: September 20, 2016, STPP Notes

I’d like to take a few minutes to address my reaction to the notes of Mr. Dale Brooks of the Surprise Tea Party Patriots meeting, of September 20, 2016, hosting Sheriff Joe Arpaio and volunteer Posse member, Mike Zullo.

As a former Board Member of the Surprise Tea Party Patriots (STPP) and the originator of the idea to investigate the authenticity of President Barack Obama’s birth certificate, I found it interesting that Mr. Brooks’ notes from the meeting didn’t mention anything about how I came up with the idea, developed the idea, and was the person who sold the idea to Dr. Jerome Corsi and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. I’m not faulting Mr. Brooks for this omission because his notes can only reflect what is said by the speakers at the meeting. It is understandable that the speakers would have reservations about speaking about how I developed the idea, because I no longer support the ongoing “investigation” that has continued now for over five years, in spite of the fact that “probable cause” had been supposedly developed that a crime had allegedly been committed and there were “persons of interest” announced by Sheriff Arpaio and Mike Zullo at the March 1, 2012, MCSO / CCP press conference. (In my opinion, the “investigation” turned into a money making publicity gimmick for Arpaio and he has milked the idea for all its worth.)

There was also the issue of the certified Verification of Birth for Barack Obama issued on May 22, 2012 to Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett and the certified Verification of Birth for Barack Obama issued, also in May of 2012, for a court case in Mississippi. Both documents verified the information contained on the PDF copy of the original documents provided to the White House and posted on the White House website. The certified Verifications of Birth, I’m told, are considered prima facie evidence of Barack Obama’s birth particulars as seen on the PDF representation, posted on the White House website, April 27, 2011.

The other issue is that Maricopa County Attorney William Montgomery reviewed all of Arpaio’s and Zullo’s evidence and he classified it as “speculation” and that it would have to be proven that Barack Obama was not a U.S. citizen. (However, the certified Verification of Birth proved that Obama is a U.S. citizen.) Montgomery also wrote in a letter to me that he had no jurisdiction in the matter. If Montgomery had no jurisdiction, it would follow that Arpaio has no jurisdiction in the matter.

As true believers in the effort, it is understandable that STPP members wouldn’t want to give any publicity to the originator of the effort who now believes the effort is now nothing more than political theater for Arpaio.

Having read the Mr. Brooks’notes, some housekeeping is now in order.

Brooks wrote: “250-300 Petition Certificates were gathered by the Surprise Tea Party to request Sheriff Arpaio investigate the matter.”

I wrote the petition and we gathered 242 signatures on 33 pages. Approximately 350 people were in attendance at the August 17, 2011, STPP meeting, hosting Jerome Corsi.

Brooks wrote: “20 others gathered in the Sheriff’s office. Most said it won’t work!”

I presented the petition to Sheriff Arpaio and discussed my plan. Arpaio asked me if I was an attorney. I said no. Arpaio said I was to be the liaison between the MCSO and the STPP. He told his staff people, all evidence related to this plan was to flow through me. I was one of 5 STPP members who were at the sheriff’s office on August 18, 2011. Dr. Jerry Corsi also attended the meeting as well as the P.I.O., Lisa Allen, Chief Deputy Brian Sands, Chief Deputy Sheridan, and Chris Hegstrom and a sergeant. Twelve people were in attendance. Mike Zullo was not in attendance at the meeting and he didn’t get involved until September 15, 2011, when he contacted me by phone for the first time. The only person who was vehemently opposed to my idea was the Public Information Officer, Lisa Allen. Chief Deputy Brian Sand’s questioned if Jerome Corsi’s “experts” were truly court experienced experts. On August 18, 2011, Sheriff Arpaio then asked for me to prepare a letter to him and he said, “put me in a box.” He asked me to return to his office with the letter and the Corsi / Wolf evidence book and my petition on August 22, 2011. On August 22, 2011, I returned to the Sheriff’s office, alone, and met with Arpaio and Chief Deputy Brian Sands. I gave Arpaio the evidence book and the letter requesting the investigation and my petition. Arpaio informed me that he was assigning the investigation to his all-volunteer Cold Case Posse so that no public funds would be spent on the investigation. I was not pleased with Arpaio’s decision to go with volunteers, but I kept it to myself.

Brooks wrote re: Arpaio comment: “They stated that the birth certificate is a violation of law.”

I never stated that the birth certificate was a violation of law. I provided Arizona fraud and forgery statutes as listed on my petition, that may apply and may have given Arpaio jurisdiction to operate, but I don’t recall anyone saying outright that the “birth certificate is a violation of law.” My goal was to have Arpaio determine the authenticity of the document utilizing Arizona statutes. Was the PDF document authentic or was it a forgery?

Brooks wrote re: Arpaio comment: “They [the CCP] took on the task for $0.00!!! No taxpayer money has been spent on this.”

This is a completely false statement. In May of 2012, the Cold Case Posse incurred approximately $9,600.00 in tax payer dollars related to their trip to the Hawaii Department of Health. As required by policy, a sworn deputy, in this case, Deputy Brian Mackiewicz, accompanied Zullo on the trip. It is unknown how many tax payer dollars were utilized by Arpaio for payments to confidential informant Dennis L. Montgomery, who reportedly helped to investigate the birth certificate with Zullo.

Brooks wrote re: Arpaio comment: “Sheriff Joe is glad the Tea Party continues to follow this process and that after 4 years they have “woke up”

The ”investigation” has been “ongoing” for 5 years, sheriff, but who’s counting? Who’s even paying attention at this point?

Brooks wrote re: Zullo comment: “The media is “intellectually incompetent”, the certificate shown isn’t a birth certificate!”

The document is a PDF representation of the President Obama’s long form birth certificate. The PDF depiction and the information it contains has been verified by the H.D.O.H Verification of Birth issued to the Arizona Secretary of State on May 22, 2012.

Brooks wrote re: Zullo comment: “They have tried to get forensic validation, and fraud validation from here, but USA is afraid to touch it.”

It’s nonsense attempting to prove a birth certificate fraud when the issuing state has verified the birth particulars on the PDF depiction of the document.

Brooks wrote re: Zullo comment: “The government uses electronics to produce fake documents, so the only reasonable conclusion is that The(sic) birth certificate is fake. It is impossible to be real by their own admission.”

This is not only an unreasonable conclusion, it’s an illogical conclusion.

For the record, I was never approached by Mr. Dale Brooks of the STPP inquiring and seeking input about how I put this project together, nor have I ever met Mr. Brooks. Upon reviewing my August 17, 2011 petition that I handed to Sheriff Arpaio, Dale Brooks’ signature is not one of the 242 people who signed my petition. Apparently, he did not attend or witness the August 17, 2011, STPP meeting.

Also, my comments are not meant to be a complete review of Mr. Brooks’ notes, but a sampling of the most glaring concerns. My comments are also based on Mr. Brooks’ notes which may be inaccurate.

    Regards,

    Brian Reilly
