Birther offers $5,000 for old newspaper

According to news reports, the Birther Summit is offering $5,000 for a copy of an original Honolulu newspaper announcing Barack Obama’s birth. Summit director Dean Haskins said:

the only evidence anyone has actually seen of the birth’s announcements has been copies of microfiche versions of those newspapers, and they contain suspicious anomalies

The papers in question are: Aug. 13, 1961 edition of The Honolulu Advertiser or the Aug. 14, 1961 edition of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

Haskins, of course, says that the newspaper wouldn’t prove anything. Sure it would: that birthers are crazy.

I just hope some hoarder from 50 years ago has a copy, so at least someone will benefit from birther stupidity.

I’ll bet dollars to donuts that any copy that does surface will automatically be a “forgery”

Obama was born in kenya, his grandmother said so in more than one interview…. surely she wouldn’t be a liar. End of story. Get this damn usurper out of the WH.

Well, you’re forgetting Farah’s “donation” to Obama’s birth hospital. The offer of money is just a show. No way they’re parting with cash for evidence that refutes their case.

  6. obsolete says:

les trace, tell us about the Pakistani travel ban. We haven’t heard that one yet.

  7. G says:

You mean the interview where she insistently corrects the radio guy to clarify that he was born in HI??? The birther radio guy keeps trying to trick her into saying Kenya or Mombassa, but she keeps telling him NO and is quite adamant that he was born in Hawaii in America.

Ah, but then again, you are obviously gullible enough to believe the false Kenyan grandmother claim without actually listening to the whole radio interview, which proves the opposite of what you’ve been told… There is a word for lazy, gullible people like you – Sucker. And Tool.

“MCRAE: When I come in December. I would like to come by the place, the hospital, where he was born. Could you tell me where he was born? Was he born in Mombasa?

OGOMBE: No, Obama was not born in Mombasa. He was born in America.

MCRAE: Whereabouts was he born? I thought he was born in Kenya.

OGOMBE: No, he was born in America, not in Mombasa.

MCRAE: Do you know where he was born? I thought he was born in Kenya. I was going to go by and see where he was born.

OGOMBE: Hawaii. Hawaii. Sir, she says he was born in Hawaii. In the state of Hawaii, where his father was also learning, there. The state of Hawaii.”

    “More than one”?

I’m sure the October 2008 McRae tape is surely one of the interviews you’re referring to. So what are the other interviews where she said he was born in Kenya?

  12. Sean says:

I would say I’m curious if the newspaper has an archive they can pull from, but Obama’s birth announcement might be worth more than $5000 for it’s historical significance.

    I could be wrong.

The other interviews are the ones that birthers WISH were out there. You know in birtherverse, WISHING something is true is as good as that thing actually BEING true.

correct, its called 50 year old microfiche.

Yep, I do believe that this is what makes the whole thing just plain old strange……….

  25. I’ve been trying to find a tangible paper copy for more than two years now. I’m still looking though. All I could find back in 2009 and 2010 was tangible microfilm located in California. I had copies made of most the month of August, 1961.

  26. jayHG: Yep, I do believe that this is what makes the whole thing just plain old strange……….

What I’ve always found strange is that there are not many black American Obots. Most obots are pasty white crackers.

Shouldn’t you be looking in Mombasa, instead?

  28. sfjeff says:

Lucas D. Smith: What I’ve always found strange is that there are not many black American Obots. Most obots are pasty white crackers.

I am actually rather swarthy. And certainly not a cracker, which in certain parts of the south would be about as offensive as calling a black man ‘ni….r’.

I think most Black Americans are just so used to blatant racial prejudice in politics that they don’t see any reason to oppose what is so obviously racially motivated.

  29. Sef: Shouldn’t you be looking in Mombasa, instead?

I’ve been hunting down old copies of the Mombasa Times as well the The Standard for some time now. I haven’t seen much of any birth announcments. But I enjoy tracking down old currency, newspapers and letters.

  30. sfjeff: I am actually rather swarthy. And certainly not a cracker, which in certain parts of the south would be about as offensive as calling a black man ni….r’.I think most Black Americans are just so used to blatant racial prejudice in politics that they don’t see any reason to oppose what is so obviously racially motivated.

I used to live in the American south as a boy in Jacksonville, Florida. The word cracker is used throughout Florida almost as if it is normal to call white Americans by that name.

As for black Americans and my comment about there not being too many black American Obots I also want to add that I don’t know a single black American that would ever, EVER, waste their time online as an Obot. Furthermore, lots of black Americans that know me also know that I believe that Obama was born in Kenya and that I have Obama’s Kenyan certificate of birth. None of them have a problem with that and none of them ever make much of an effort to debate the issue with me. It doesn’t really effect ou friendships. As a matter of fact its sometimes brought up as a joke in coversation, e.g., I was having a mixed-drink (whipped cream flavored vodka with orange juice and grenadine) with some friends and my voice got a little slurred (I don’t drink much so it doesn’t take much but a small glass) and I stated that I could ‘turn-off’ the slurred speech on the drop of a dime if someone important walked through the door. At that someone said something like, “Yeah right, if Obama walked in right now you’d say ‘heeeaay, I waaannnaaaa sheeee the birrrrrffffff cetifficake!.'”</b

  31. No, she never said this in an interview. In fact in one or two interviews she described meeting Barack Obama as an adult.

Unsubstantiated rumors will get you nowhere on this web site.

les trace: Obama was born in kenya, his grandmother said so in more than one interview

  32. This was a recording of a private phone conversation, not an interview or something on the radio.

G: You mean the interview where she insistently corrects the radio guy

  33. JoZeppy says:

Lucas D. Smith: What I’ve always found strange is that there are not many black American Obots. Most obots are pasty white crackers.

Project much? Polls found that birthers tend to be white, poor, poorly educated, and southern.

  34. JoZeppy: Project much? Polls found that birthers tend to be white, poor, poorly educated, and southern.

Are you a northern cracker then?

  35. G says:

I suspect that had to do with 2 factors – 1) you were a kid hanging with a bunch of other kids and children will use slang and colorful language amongst each other that you wouldn’t otherwise use in public. 2) I suspect a lot of your speech and mannerisms were influenced by both jail and living in economically disadvantaged areas.

Despite how you try to portray it, Cracker is an intentionally derrogatory term and a slur that is not used in mainstream society. Call someone a Cracker in a business meeting and watch how quickly you are shown the door.

I suspect that you know little about how society functions beyond your own hardships and environment. You probably have very little situational awareness of how emotionally stunted you can come across to the rest of us. You are over 30 now. Time to learn how to act like a responsible adult.

Lucas D. Smith: I used to live in the American south as a boy in Jacksonville, Florida. The word cracker is used throughout Florida almost as if it is normal to call white Americans by that name.

  36. G says:

    Thank you for the correction.

Dr. Conspiracy: This was a recording of a private phone conversation, not an interview or something on the radio.

  37. Keith says:

My brother used to have copies of the Detroit papers from the day after Peal Harbor. Half of the front page was the one word WAR.

I don’t know what happened to that stuff though. It probably got tossed out when he died, in rather sad circumstances. So it goes.

  38. JoZeppy says:

Lucas D. Smith: As for black Americans and my comment about there not being too many black American Obots I also want to add that I don’t know a single black American that would ever, EVER, waste their time online as an Obot.

Besides the fact that I’m not sure even what an Obot is, I’m sure you’ve actually spoken to a good portion of the 40 million African Americans in the US, or at least surveyed a random sample large enough to make these silly statements….or perhaps you’re relying on a survey none of us have seen yet….because we all know that despite being a convicted forger and admitted child molester and black marketeer, we can trust anything you say.

Lucas D. Smith: Furthermore, lots of black Americans that know me also know that I believe that Obama was born in Kenya and that I have Obama’s Kenyan certificate of birth. None of them have a problem with that and none of them ever make much of an effort to debate the issue with me. It doesn’t really effect ou friendships

To quote Hot Tub Time Machine, “everybody has that asshole friend.” I guess we know who fits the bill in your circle.

The point is that if your POSKFBC weren’t a fake there would be absolutely no reason for you to look through U.S. papers. Your entire concentration should be on Kenyan papers. Therefore, you are acknowledging that it is a fake.

  40. JoZeppy says:

Lucas D. Smith: Are you a northern cracker then?

It never ceases to amuse me when our resident felon/admitted child molester tries to get a rise out of people. Seems to show your own personal insecurities more than anything.

  41. misha says:

    Slaughterhouse 5

The way Vonnegut slams optometrists, I think he went to optometry school for one or two semesters, and got disgusted.

Of course, Pearl Harbor Day was the kind of day that people could instantly recognize as historical, like 9/11. It makes sense for newspapers from the day after to be preserved. August 4th, 1961 was a pretty unremarkable day.

  47. Majority Will says:

What an opportunity for convicted felon, forger and birther bigot, Lucas D. He can put the money in a trust fund for his many, many likely future legal fines and bail bonds.

P.S. This way Lucas can backtrack on the Mombasa hoax, say he was scammed and start working on de Vattel forgeries to support the two citizen parents myth.

Yeah but isn’t that more indicative of a mental illness than simply a fondness for collecting. I’m thinking that if someone does have this, he or she will not be quick to part with it, even for $5000 or more.

I’m guessing that when nobody comes forward with this newspaper, the birther reaction will be “OMG COVERUP” instead of the sensible “NOBODY SAVES 50 YEAR OLD NEWSPAPERS”.

Maybe I should save today’s copy of The News Journal, just in case there’s some controversey surround whoever is president in 2061. Assuming I’m not dead by then.

  51. Lupin says:

I see the Beagle Boy is back.

Otherwise, who would bother faking a 50-year-old microfiche 50 years ago. And them surreptitiously replace all the genuine microfiches with the faked ones.

Scary black man has mighty juju power, I suppose.

  52. PaulG says:

Maybe the B S should be checking for a paper mache craft project that became a family heirloom? (This would be more ridiculous if my dad didn’t have a kindergarten picture from 1966 on his study wall.) What the B S is looking for is every baking soda and vinegar science fair volcano made in Honolulu in the relevant period. (It’s Hawaii. There ought to be thousands of them.) Then all they have to do is start soaking! They’ll have results in a decade!

  53. Tarrant says:

And the most amazing part of it all – he was so thorough that he found EVERY SINGLE COPY of that microfiche – in the world! – and changed them all out with the “forged” versions. He didn’t miss even one, since no one has found one that didn’t have the announcement in it.

Yet despite this immense power and organization, they maintain he released an “amateurish” document forgery?

Lucas D. Smith claims to have gone to Mombasa, Kenya and obtained a “birth certificate” for Obama there. But Lucas D. Smith has never even proved that he went to Kenya. 2 Birther comments & no one local is interested. If someone actually had a copy of that 50 year old paper they could get a lot more than 5K for it but I’ll give the Birthers credit for trying. Judging by the success of Carl Swenson’s Pitchfork Rally in GA, which was free,, the Birther Summit folks really need to get to work preaching to their choir or their March event will just provide more laughs for the rest of us.

I have a copy of the Druid Free Press from that day. (This was a student ‘underground’ paper at the University of Arizona in Tucson). They also printed posters of the front page and I have one framed and hanging on my wall.

The front page was taken up by a photo of the moon with a four pointed star marking the location of Tranquility Base over the following text:

A nation that can land men on the moon can feed its hungry, make jobs for its poor, clean up its air and water, and makes its cities liveable –

    -if it wants to.

I am still waiting for that promise to be fulfilled.

So we might as well spend it expand our horizons.

Call me cynical but I think they knew very well from the start that the odds were strongly in favour of no-one having an original newspaper from that date. Bear with me.

So they make an offer of 5k, no response. Encouraged by this reaffirmation of what by they already thought was likely ie that no-one will still have one, they up the offer to 10k. Later it will go up to 20k or more. The more sure they become that there is no original paper still available the higher the offer will go, knowing they won’t have to pay (not that they would pay anyway even if it was produced).

At some point they will introduce the somewhat sleight of hand notion that this therefore means that any remaining original newspaper copies must already be in the hands of Obama supporters and that since none of them will sell for the reward that means the Obama announcement isn’t in there.

The purpose of this exercise from the beginning was not to find an original newspaper in the faint hope that the announcement wouldn’t be in it (even they cannot be so stupid as to genuinely believe it wouldn’t be). The purpose was to put themselves in a position to be able to suggest that all the surviving copies were being purposely hidden…..which is of course something only the devious Obot conspirators ‘side’ would do.
