Housekeeping

Today is dedicated to a little housekeeping after the election. I scanned the birther blogs and wrote about that. I finally fixed the bullet list for my Recommended Books and got the blog software up to date.

I dropped by FactCheck.org and noticed that they had published an article called “Obama’s Numbers” that catalogs important statistics about what’s happened in the United States since Obama took office. The article is a quick reference for settling arguments and countering rumors. Did you know that handgun manufacturing is up 68% in the US? I didn’t.

If you aren’t one of the 12 million people who viewed this video of a 4-year-old girl overwhelmed by presidential politics, here’s your chance. “It’ll be over soon.”

John Woodman retired, perhaps for good, a few weeks back. John, bless his heart, was not an Obama supporter, even though he was on the side of the angels on questions about Obama’s eligibility. Best of luck to John.

Ms. Conspiracy had a bit of a funny reaction when I read Bunny Sewell’s comment to her: “Now maybe I’ll get my husband back.” I’m not quite sure what that look meant.

NBC at his blog wrote:

Justice at last

Obama wins another 4 years. A president strong of character and standing up for the people.

Which also means probably four more years of Orly… Yeah!!!

Perhaps. Orly’s last minute of fame may be November 16 in Jackson, Mississippi, when motions to dismiss will be heard in federal court in the case of Taitz v. Mississippi Democrat Party. Judge Wingate seems to be an excellent judge, and the Democrats the Hawaii defendants, and the Mississippi Secretary of State have submitted persuasive briefs. What follows will be motions for sanctions because the Democrats are tired of having Taitz running around the country interrupting their dinner.

did you know that the NRA spent $11 million on this election, and got shut out? MAZEL TOV

basically the money the gop spent could have been burned instead for all the good it did (for them)

BTW: CA – Orly v Obama – Orly failed.. Again.

The first three foregoing errors are not capable of being cured. Accordingly, the court DISMISSES the Petition with prejudice.

I suppose it makes sense that gun production would be rising, as gun sales are up. Republicans were sure Obama would take away their guns during his first term, though he only increased gun rights. Now they’re extra super-duper-quadruple-sure that he’ll take the away in his second since he won’t be running for office again.

    Idiots.

  10. This is odd. I had the largest number of visits on the site yesterday, November 7, than any other day this year.

Now now, as an actual as opposed to Birfoon Constitutional supporter, whilst I agree on many items I do have an issue with 2nd Amendment concerns…..

The ACTUAL Constitution has stated that 2A is incorporated again the states and until such time as the SC rules otherwise then 2A is a constitutionally protected right. Don’t like it nip problem get the SC to rule otherwise or get a constitutional amendment.

I like to think of the money that the GOP spent as job creation helping President Obama to improve the economy !

I wonder if some of the traffic was due to disgruntled Republicans seeking some explanation for their (to them) inexplicable loss the night before, hoping to find some conspiracy in which Obama stole the election.

Not sure where you are coming from here, as your grammar has just gone down the gurgler – I assume you posting from a phone and haven’t suddenly gone “Deliverance” on us. But assuming you are serious in your remarks, and without wanting to turn this into an extremely off topic debate, I just want to point out that few, if any, gun control ‘advocates’ dispute that Constitutionally protected right.

At the same time, it must be pointed out that the Second Amendment is the ONLY amendment in the Constitution that contains its own justification for its existence. And that justification refers directly to another clause in the Constitution proper.

2nd Amendment: “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state,…”

    Article 1 Section 8: “Congress shall have power to… To provide for calling forth the militia to execute the laws of the union, suppress insurrections and repel invasions; To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the militia, and for governing such part of them as may be employed in the service of the United States, reserving to the states respectively, the appointment of the officers, and the authority of training the militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;

So the purpose of the 2nd amendment is to ensure that a militia can have teeth.

The 2nd Amendment does not protect the right of every two bit pimp to carry a gun so he can put a cap in his ho when she talks back to him. It isn’t even to ensure that you have the right to go deer hunting on the weekend with your buddies, and it certainly doesn’t protect your right to use a machine gun to hunt deer.

That isn’t to say that deer hunting isn’t a ‘political’ right, however, it just isn’t what the Constitution intended to protect. Deer hunting is protected by the political will of the American people.

The NRA has successfully confused the political will so that they don’t know the difference between a militia, a street gang, or a deer hunting party. And they have done so, in the main, by suppressing the Constitutional linkage between the 2nd Amendment and Congress authority to “organize, arm, and discipline” the militia.

  15. Keith says:

Sorry. That belongs in off topic. I get carried away sometimes.

  16. That’s possible.

The monthly average is about 50% new visitors and 50% returning visitors. In “dull” times the returning visitor number is a little more. Yesterday, there were 73.22% new visits (the raw number of new visits is 3,257 vs. 1191 returning visits). The bounce rate (the number of people who look at one page and leave) stayed it its historical low level, 1.24%. However, they didn’t stay as long. Historical averages are that folks stay about 4.5 minutes, but it was half that yesterday, and historically folks view around 4 pages, but it was down to 3.6 yesterday. That is consistent with new folks poking around, but not pondering on the pages.

RuhRoh: I wonder if some of the traffic was due to disgruntled Republicans seeking some explanation for their (to them) inexplicable loss the night before, hoping to find some conspiracy in which Obama stole the election.

Shhhhh! You’ve been wondering where all de birfers are. They’re right here ….. lurking.

    Creeping.

    Sneaking.

Remember how “charo” suddenly piped up the other day? They are watching and waiting. They can’t bear to pipe up, fearing a pack of derisive obots jeering “I told you so!” (projecting their own character (as always….)) …. but yet they’re so addicted they can’t stay away.

They’ll reset, 7, 15 days tops. They won’t be so fervent, without another natural Domesday compelling them. They’re just waiting for a new stimuli, new impetus.

Or maybe they are observing a period of mourning and self-chastisement. Heh.

  18. They wants it. They wants the precious.

    JPotter: Sneaking.

(Glad you got that! So much to look forward to in reality. Poor birfers … they should come out and play!)

There was an incredible jump in gun sales after President Obama was elected (I don’t understand why all of the gun companies haven’t been contributing to President Obama’s campaign generously—they couldn’t have wanted Romney to win) and I know that there are plenty of liberal gun owners, but I’m guessing that the increase in gun purchases was mostly amongst conservatives. I wonder if there will be another bolus of purchases between now and the inauguration…

    Unique Visitors: 2,304
    Pageviews: 11,157
    Pages / Visit: 3.96
    Avg. Visit Duration: 00:03:24
    Bounce Rate: 0.78%
    % New Visits: 65.58%

    Those are still pretty strong.

I’m sure that there will be a huge jump in gun sales between now and the inauguration, yes. Conservatives fear that Obama will move to erode gun rights as he will not run for office again and could therefore risk unpopular legislation.

I think this is the first time I read somebody else write this. I’ve been thinking that for years (ever since I first actually studied the Constitution instead of just reading it like a novel).

  24. JPotter says:

Slartibartfast: I wonder if there will be another bolus of purchases between now and the inauguration…

There should be …. I’ve already seen comments that Obama has ‘signed up’ to attend the UN ‘gun ban’ talks in March.

    Get’em while they’re hot, folks!

Other potential, ready-made conspiracies I have yet to see the nutters adopt:

Seal Team 6 disciplined for leaking secrets while advising on video game (“They’re being silenced!”)

Obama heading to Southeast Asia in a couple weeks (“Right after teh election? He’s pay homage to his roots / paying off his handlers / getting new orders / running off to hide [insert McGuffin here]”)

The ODS afflicted still in shock?

    obama TOOK FLORIDA

The Associated Press called Florida for Obama on Saturday. Obama won 50 percent of the vote to Romney’s 49.1 percent. The margin of victory for Obama was about 74,000 votes.

    some factoids

obama won the 2012 election by 3,202,936 votes

    50.6% obama

47.9% romney (romney GOT his 47%)

mccain got more votes than mitt

obama got fewer votes than he did in 08

and the turnout was bigger in 08

in 04, bush beat kerry by 3,012,166 and SAID he HAD A MANDATE

    he beat kerry 50.7%/48.3%

    kerry TOO beat mitt

    for the RECORD

RCP Florida: Romney vs. Obama Obama +0.9

    Rasmussen Reports Romney +2

lol gallup SCRUBBED their polls from the RCP WEBSITE

but the internetS still have it

10/29 Gallup: Romney extends lead over Obama to 5 points

10/25 Gallup poll: Romney maintains 3-point lead over Obama, 50-47 .

11/8 Gallup’s daily national tracking poll put Republican nominee Mitt Romney ahead by 5 percentage points until it was suspended because of superstorm Sandy, and a final national survey released Monday gave the Republican a 1-point advantage.

AND WITHOUT GALLUP, the rcp average was Obama +0.9 which is EXACTLY what obama won by

SO MUCH FOR “OVERSAMPLING OF DEMOCRATS”

PPP was the MOST ACCURATE with Obama +1 on 11/3 – 11/4

  26. donna: 47.9% romney (romney GOT his 47%)

Please warn me in the future. I was laughing so hard, I had to use my inhaler.

  27. donna says:

    misha marinsky:

    lol keep laughing

and obama beat paul ryan in his own district

Paul Ryan reelected to Congress with lowest margin of career

In somewhat of a surprise, Rep. Paul Ryan won reelection Tuesday with the lowest margin of his career, claiming just under than 55 percent of the vote in the Republican vice presidential candidate’s southern Wisconsin district.

President Obama won Rock County, Ryan’s home, with more than 60 percent of the vote.

With three terms under his belt as Budget Committee chairman or ranking member, Ryan would need a waiver from House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) to maintain that gavel. Most GOP insiders expect he will be granted the waiver.

did you LOVE how gallup SCRUBBED their polls from RCP?
