The birthers seem to think that Sheriff Joe Arpaio raised $7 million in support of his investigation of Barack Obama, a veritable mandate for him to prosecute a case against the President. Here are two examples:
URGENT: Sheriff Joe and the Cold Case Posse have successfully raised more than $7 MILLION dollars to fuel their law enforcement investigation of Barack Obama’s eligibility to be President of the United States after being compelled to do so by constituents concerned about the integrity of our ballots. And the Posse professionals [?] found evidence of systemic fraud, forgery, corruption and cover-up! Now, we are demanding that Sheriff Joe and the Cold Case Posse put their money where their mouth is and FILE A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT!
Since Arpaio did not file a criminal complaint against Obama and refused to comply with subpoena and testify at trial, demand that he refund the public 7 million that he collected!
In truth, that money was raised for Arpaio’s re-election campaign. According to his campaign finance reports, not a nickel of that money went to investigating Obama. Arpaio raised a total of $8,476,526.18 for his 2012 campaign, and reports spending all but about $300,000. The money is gone. If you expected your donation to go to the Cold Case Posse, you’ve been ripped off. If you want a refund, forget it.
You can read Arpaio’s complete campaign finance reports at the Maricopa County Recorder’s web site.
A scam? I’m shocked, shocked I tell you!
“In truth, that money was raised for Arpaio’s re-election campaign. According to his campaign finance reports, not a nickel of that money went to investigating Obama.”
If we can’t count on the Sheriff to protect us from brown people, the only thing to do is get an assault rifle. Just like in Stockton, California:
Cleveland School massacre

I’m curious. Did Sherrif Joke ever suggest that donations would be going toward his vendetta against President Obama, or did birthers just assume that any money they sent him would be used for that purpose?
I don’t mean to imply that Arpaio misrepresented what campaign donations go for. He did, however, misrepresent the quality of his investigation, ignored the blatant misconduct of the Cold Case Posse, and mislead people by his weasel-worded affidavit.
I don’t know of him ever making such a suggestion. For birthers, hopes are facts.
So…. the coincidence of his ‘crusade’ with the election cycle was not merely coincidence? 😉
Never fear, you can still donate to him here!

(why is his ‘Nat’l Support Center’ in Pueblo, CO?!? Unnecessary overhead = skimming!)
And support his “legal defense” here:

I like the implication that all litigation against Papa Arp is “frivolous”. Even the federal kinds? Especially the federal kind!
And yes, you can still donate to the CCCP!

Since they aren’t doing anything, they obviously need your support more than ever!
And IRS.gov confirms they are still eligible for 50%-deductible contributions.

Most interestingly, the CCCP is not a new organization, it was founded in 2007 as Arpaio’s local goon squad. It’s registered as an ‘educational institution’ and as a part of local gov’t:

I don’t think birfers realized this … the impression given and assumption made, nationally, was that this was a purpose-dedicated, birf-specific financial vehicle.
Oops.
Helped him survive an election, all a career pol cares about anyway.
I will hear none of it. That $14 million must be accounted for! We can’t just let $28 million evaporate into thin air; I hope — no, I beg that birthers muster all the righteous indignation they can find until Arpaio explains where that 50 million dollars went!
Or, alternatively, hold his feet to the fire (ewww) until he files that criminal complaint, because you know that’s totally something that’s ever going to happen!
Wasn’t CCCP founded in 1922?
Corsi’s Cold Case Posse …. until proven otherwise 😉
(The rationale for this accusation on loan from the Jerome Corsi Institute for Principled Journalism. JCIPJ …. Promulgating only the Finest of Birfy Birfs, since 2008*)
* Yep, that’s right, it’s only been 4 short years! Believe it … or believe it!
No, early 21st century:

Well if these nimrods can’t tell the difference between funds paid to a law firm for general legal services and funds paid to a law firm specifically to deal with eligibility issues, I’m not surprised they would jump to the conclusion that Arpaio raised the money specifically for the purposes of investigating Obama.
Where’s Loren?
Seriously, he spent almost almost $8.2 million, running for re-election as a sheriff in an Arizona county?
Does anyone else see something really wrong with that basic premise?
He spent a lot of that money in fundraising.
I’m sure some of that money went into a new mobile artillery piece and more ways to degrade prisoners.
The address for the election committee is where Starworld Travel is located in Scottsdale. Arpaio and his wife have owned or co-owned the agency for years. I believe he may also own the building though I couldn’t find it on the assessor’s website. Nothing for the name “Arpaio” shows up so I’m inclined to think they have been blocked.
A few years ago someone was charged with publishing his home address after finding it in a public record on the assessor’s or recorder’s websites. Needless to say that case didn’t go very far.
The assessor and recorder in Maricopa County are also elected.
Well, yes.
But it wasn’t his personal money, so that’s supposed to make it okay.
That’s correct. Arpaio owns at least two commercial properties according to several news reports, and he did have his record purged from the County records.

I was going to mention that there were questions about the source of his money but Dougherty’s piece takes care of that.
The whole thing about his information being purged from public records was right out of the Keystone Cops. Everyone involved looked like fools.
