Now, I will make an announcement of the update in comments, and include the updated material in the comment where practical. I also finished removing update notes from prior article titles.

    I am changing formatting on the blog: the names of web sites and publications will no longer be italicized.

    I’ve also started experimenting with the use of italics to denote written quotations. The blockquotes have always been italicized by default. One convention is to use quotation marks for spoken quotations, italics for written ones.

    I suppose I should have adopted a style guide at the start, sigh.

    I had a listen very juicy parts here. Mike Volin talks about next steps wherein he mentions that Arpaio will be releasing Universe Shattering information in March. I guess he just forgot what day it was or is using it on repeat. The host was making fun of Volin and his birther compadres and Volin didn’t even get it.

    The part that did it for me: Volin says he doesn’t believe Ann Dunham is the mother of the child that either she adopted a baby overseas or someone left a colored baby on her doorstep. The reason is that “blacks and whites in 1961 didn’t mix”. I think we got his motivation.

    Yep he said he talks to them daily and they’re all lined up. It’s the same crap Gallups is pushing.

    That’s a common problem for conspiracy believers. Usually they “explain” it by claiming they – in contrast to other “enemies of the regime” – are so super-important that, should the conspiracy dare to dispose of them, the people would immediately be enlightened and rise up to overthrow the conspirators.

    It’s a crude mix of conspiracy belief and a God complex (after all, these people believe to be the enlightened few), although birthers are a little different as they like to claim “millions”, if not the majority of the country, agree with them whereas typical conspiracy believers style themselves as the elite few who are not “sheeple”.

    My favorite is the birther meme that Obama is blackmailing most or all of the Federal bench. He was able to “force” John Roberts to vote in favor of Obamacare, yet for some reason Roberts and the other SCOTUS conservatives vote against Obama on campaign finance reform, affirmative action, etc.

    So I am nearing the end of McGinniss’ Palin book, The Rogue. He doesn’t say he believes that Trig is not Palin’s child, and he pretty much concludes the the baby was not Bristol’s. He still had questions. Of course, he didn’t know about the sources that Salon.com uncovered a year after his book was written. He probably could have dug deeper into the question. He did conclude, and I agree, that Palin acted recklessly in making a 10-hour trip at the end of a high-risk pregnancy and giving birth prematurely at a hospital without a NICU.

    Comparing the Salon story with The Rogue is a good exercise in seeing the same events from two entirely different points of view, providing a cautionary tale for anyone who approaches controversial narratives.

    Another point about Trig’s birth is noteworthy. While McGinniss’ book contains nothing about the selection process of Palin for Republican vice-presidential candidate, he does say that the birth of Trig was a major consideration in Palin’s selection. According to a very authoritative book on the 2008 election, Game Change, this wasn’t a factor.

    One other controversial issue is who was given “a pass” by the press in the 2008 election. Certainly Palin got one, both in the incredibly rushed and superficial vetting given Palin by the McCain campaign at the very last minute when McCain’s primary choice Joe Lieberman didn’t work out, and by the press not covering her alleged membership in the Alaska Independence Party and her certain membership in a really extreme Pentecostal sect. I’d put the negatives of her pastor right beside Obama’s pastor Jeremiah Wright. Some of the things Palin did as Mayor of Wasilla and Governor of Alaska could well have gotten her impeached if they had been done as Vice President. Hillary Clinton got a pass in 2008, and I think Obama got one to some extent as well.

    The birthers refuse to believe how the Supreme Court works, no matter how many times they are told.

    I remember back in 2008 when the first birther lawsuit went to the Supreme Court (Berg v. Obama), the court docket showed that a response was due on December 1. The birthers were all excited because they believed that Obama was going to have to produce his birth certificate on December 1. Of course, what actually happened is that the respondents waived their right to respond and the petition was denied.

    Birthers are very slow learners.

    Klayman’s client, Vincent Forras, is a controversial figure who has made a career of supposedly being a damaged 9/11 first responder.

    Forras was a member of the South Salem, N.Y. Volunteer Fire Department. South Salem is approximately 60 miles north of Ground Zero, and its fire department was not asked to come to Manhattan. Forras claims that he went there on his own, that he remained there for weeks, that at one point he was buried under rubble for two hours, etc. His claims have been disputed by other firefighters.

    He subsequently started a foundation called Gear Up, which supposedly was going to provide fire fighting equipment for poor countries and was supposedly going to support injured 9/11 first responders in unspecified ways.

    How Forras got hooked up with Klayman is a mystery to me, In the New York lawsuit, which was dismissed, the court remarked that the plaintiff’s claims were “poorly pleaded” by Klayman.

    Forras now has initiated litigation against The Village Voice and other defendants for defamation. is is one of The Village Voice pieces which he objects to. Klayman is not representing Forras in the new lawsuit.

    And I’m sure that the only role which Obama played in getting his first passport was posing for a photo and signing some forms. His mother undoubtedly supplied the proof of birth.

    As long as Obama renewed his passport every time it came up for renewal, I believe that he would never had had to personally produce a birth certificate.

    That may be the most idiotic of all the birther conspiracy theories: I’ve often pointed out that anyone can go online and order a kit to make absolutely any stamp you want for under $200. Including the expensive UV chamber for curing the polymer, which a professional forger would already have, so the actual cost would be closer to $5 for materials.

    But, for this job, the forger wouldn’t even need to do that, since he would just be making a monochrome (or, at worst, grayscale) image for insertion into the replacement microfilm reel. Which could be done with any graphics program that does pixel-level editing.

    But birfers always assume that everyone else is as stupid as they are, so they invented a tale of someone desperately searching ebay, and scouring flea markets, to try to replicate an antique stamp.

    You’re welcome. P.S. I think I’d have to kill myself before becoming as “perfect” as Ann Coulter, Judge Moore, et al. Whenever I think of Coulter, I think of the town she grew up in–New Canaan, Connecticut. When I was a kid in 1966, my family looked to move from NY to the Conn. suburbs, and New Canaan was a town we had to skip over in our search for a home–they had a “gentlemen’s agreement” not to sell to anyone descended from the real Land of Canaan…. Its the same area and gentlemen’s agreement that Gregory Peck made famous in the movie.
