Now that’ll make for some grand comedy!

So, some right wing nutter on was going on about how Obama’s amnesty action is unconstitutional and illegal. I asked this fellow to show me what law Obama was breaking, and how he was breaking it.

The best he could do was dump a Wikipedia link to a completely unrelated topic. He was also ranting how Executive orders are illegal. When I confronted him over his stupidity, I got the usual “argle-blargle” one would expect from someone in that position. I wouldn’t be surprised if said rocket scientist mistook a port-a-potty for his local polling location.

Hmmm, sounds like a… Conspiracy to bury this report!! (Now where did I put my tinfoil hat?)

“Susan Rice, then U.S. ambassador to the United Nations… inaccurately assert[ed] that the attack had evolved from a protest, when in fact there had been no protest.”

OK, now I’m confused. In December of 2013, David Kirkpatrick wrote in the New York Times:

“The investigation by The Times shows that the reality in Benghazi was different, and murkier, than either of those story lines [video-inspired protests that got out of hand, vs. carefully planned assault by Al Qaeda] suggests.

“The violence, though, also had spontaneous elements. Anger at the video motivated the initial attack. Dozens of people joined in, some of them provoked by the video and others responding to fast-spreading false rumors that guards inside the American compound had shot Libyan protesters. Looters and arsonists, without any sign of a plan, were the ones who ravaged the compound after the initial attack, according to more than a dozen Libyan witnesses as well as many American officials who have viewed the footage from security cameras.”

Crustacean: OK, now I’m confused. In December of 2013, David Kirkpatrick wrote in the New York Times

Kirkpatrick wasn’t a Republican, struggling to wring partisan advantage out of the event without getting caught lying.

The Times had a reporter on the scene the night of the attack, who filed a story that night saying there was a mixed mob of angry civilians (some of whom said they were there about the video), some random armed people who appeared to be militia types, and one or more well-organized groups not associated with the others.

So it would appear that both the claim that “the attack grew out of the protest” and “there was no protest” are incorrect: there were multiple types of people there, with multiple purposes.

…proving yet again that with birthers, parody is just gilding the lily.

  10. Dave says:

So I hear that the House GOP finally filed their lawsuit — I confess I thought they never would — and it turns out to be mostly about a cost-sharing arrangement in Obamacare involving payments from the government to insurance companies related so some policies of lower-income people. The argument seems to be that the funds were authorized but never specifically appropriated, therefore the payments are illegal.

I have no idea if this argument has any merit.

  11. Andrew Vrba, PmG says:

I dunno, as most of the GOP’s problems with anything Obama does is “He did this thing, and we don’t like it!”. They cry “wolf” on a near daily basis.

  12. RanTalbott says:

Gerbil Report is now so desperate for anything they can call “news” that their latest feature is an open letter from Kerchner, stamping his feet and telling some Tea Party group telling them that he’ll come to their “anti-Executive-Amnesty” rally in DC only if they’ll agree to go full-metal-birfoon. No mention of whether he also plans to hold his breath.

This follows a Free Dumb Friday update that the investigation is “on course” and “hovering over heavy targets”. Which sounds to me like their current heading is “0 degrees, 0 knots”.

  13. Bovril says:

OIhhhhhh, it gets better over at Gerbil Report.

In a desperate attempt to appear relevant, Bob Nelson has dumped not 1, not 2, not 3 but 32 “new” “articles” on the site de merde over in the last two days. The best part, they are all rehashed, some going back to 2011, they appear tro be mostly by Linda Jordan and “Pixel Patriot” and there are so many that the Birthers don’t know where to post…….. 😎

  14. The Magic M says:

Bovril: Bob Nelson has dumped not 1, not 2, not 3 but 32 “new” “articles” on the site de merde over in the last two days

Was there so much in-fighting in the most recent articles that he had to push them far off the start page? Or did he promote Linda Jordan to site admin and she bumped the date on all of her old articles?

  15. The Magic M says:

RanTalbott: So it would appear that both the claim that “the attack grew out of the protest” and “there was no protest” are incorrect: there were multiple types of people there, with multiple purposes.

That’s the problem today with all this “instant information” and whatnot – it becomes impossible to get to the “real” story within the first few days. Modifying an old adage a little, “9 news networks, 10 different versions of the story”. And that’s what is feeding conspiracy believers because they think different versions mean some kind of cover-up.

Example: there is a shooting somewhere. Some witnesses say “we saw one shooter” and ABC reports that. Some witnesses hear shots from different directions and say “there were at least two shooters” and NBC reports that. Later it turns out the latter witnesses heard echoes and ricochets. But conspiracy believers stick with “whatever happened to the second shooter, why was he never found, why did the media cover that up?”.
Amplified by the internet and a little game of telephone and you end up with Sandy Hookers or Benghazidiots.
Everybody makes up his own personal version of reality and it ends up being spread like gospel.

[Another older example is the Holocaust. The numbers of victims changed over the years as more information became available, and that fact alone is used by Holocaust deniers to bolster their claim that nobody died. E.g. they like to refer to an obscure local Swiss newspaper that reported 15 million Holocaust victims in 1947 (?) as “see, everybody was just making up numbers”.]

Benghazi was an especially good example to see how a moderately sane issue (“was there too little security for the compound?”) got blown up first by supposedly sane politicians (Does it really matter if it took two days before the attack was no longer blamed on a video? Did this cause any deaths? No.), then by average cranks (the “stand down order” myth), then by super cranks (“facility was used to funnel weapons to terrorists”), then by the ODS crowd (“Obama watched the attack live on screen”) and the super-deranged ODS crowd (“Obama watched the attack live on screen and cheered for the terrorists”).
I think this will inspire papers of psychology majors in the years to come.

  16. RanTalbott says:

Bovril: In a desperate attempt to appear relevant, Bob Nelson has dumped not 1, not 2, not 3 but 32 “new” “articles” on the site de merde over in the last two days.

Actually, it looks like he screwed something up (there’s an “experiencing technical difficulties” banner near the top), and some other stuff is broken. Links back from youtube videos get “page not found” errors. I don’t care enough to do a detailed diagnosis, but my guess is that he typed something wrong, and replaced all of November with archived articles.

He’s got a couple of new articles up that seem to be correct. Meanwhile, I see a few of the Gerbils are posting new comments on old articles. I wonder how long it’ll take them to notice 😉

  17. RanTalbott says:

The Magic M: That’s the problem today with all this “instant information” and whatnot – it becomes impossible to get to the “real” story within the first few days.

That was problem. Now, as you allude to a little further on, the problem is that the false stories spread like wildfire, and it’s becoming difficult to get the real story ever. Google web searches, and even news searches, are bloated with rumors spread on blogs, and then posted as comments on legitimate news sites as “rebuttals” to the “government-controlled media”. So even people who actually want to find out the truth get inundated with the lies.

On topics related to Obama, it seems like the S/N ratio is approaching 0. I’m just hoping that Google will buy IBM, so they can use Watson technology to add a loon filter to their search engine 😉

  18. What the heck just happened? I went to BirtherReport.com which had just one stale article full of super stale promises, which was full of super stale stuff to begin with, and now it’s full of six?….seven?….eight? additional super stale articles. I know they weren’t there last night.

Correction: 32? There trying to get ahead of something. Phoenix Rising?

Did Klayman and Arpaio have some sort of LSD acid-tripping creative love fest last night?

  19. Andrew Vrba, PmG says:

Gerbil Report is back to the tried and true method of: Spam a bunch of “news” stories, which don’t really say anything.
Also, Shurfjoke swears that the information is coming “soon”. Honest! 😉

  20. Andrew Vrba, PmG says:

Also, the “thumbs down” feature has vanished again. I couldn’t possibly imagine why. Tee-hee!

Or maybe it was the NSA trying to lure you into admitting you own the time machine they’ve misplaced ever since they put (“will have had going to have had put” according to Dr Dan Streetmentioner) the fake BC into the Hawaiian vault in 1961.

  26. Dave B. says:

No, but apparently it was left up to me to define the terms. I decided that however much I was going to eat was going to be just right. They did also ask a few questions about the economy, which was kind of tricky of them. I can see the spin now:
“Americans overeating to quell pangs of disquiet over Obama’s economy.”

I have had no luck finding original sources for the text of the filings in this lawsuit. I’m not interested in editorials and opinions until I can read the documents themselves.

What I’ve managed to glean from the weak reporting on the lawsuit is that the claim amounts to money ($180 Billion) that might be spent some time in the next ten years by parties who will in the future occupy the political offices (HHS, Treasury) of the parties named in the suit. Essentially they are suing over something that the administration in 2021 *might* do, on the grounds that they might do it without approval from the 115th Congress.

I have trouble picturing that sort of claim reaching the first hearing, but without actually reading the filings, I can’t know if there’s a proper justicable claim being made, or if there is a question that can be answered in the form of a court judgment.

  40. Marvin Bowen says:

You claim that the birthers are crazy. Well, the evidence is there for
anyone to see that Barry Sotoro aka Barack H. Obama is the imposter
President . Sheriff Joe and the Cold Case Posse ran by Mike Zullo proved
w/o any shadow of doubt that Obama’s BC is fake, BHOII stole his
SSN and also faked his Selective Service registration. So, when you trash
the birthers and anyone else, where is your proof that your accusations are correct
that that asshole Obama is a legitiment POTUS. You Democrats are scared of the truth because
being the progressives , the statist and liars that you are want absolute power to run everyones lives. Judges and others are afraid to do anything about Obama so they claim
no jurisdiction to do so which is ,of course, a lie especially at the federal level.
But,Obama has them by the gonads there. One can just see if they have sight
that Obama loved Jeremiah Wright, BO’s minister for 20 years who said” GD America”. If my minister said some like that, I would be livid and quit that church.
So, HBOII by his actions and foul deeds is trying to live up to that statement : to damn America and destroy it. Barry Soetoro ( BHOII) HATES AMERICA .Well, if it was for America, the world would trashed a long time ago. The american people are the most generous people on esrth. Ex: She helped Europe , Japan and other countries get on their feet after WWII. I could go on and on about the good the USA has done for the world more than any other country.

So, It is not a day that goes by that he is not working to that end ( tear up the Constitution and therefore America as we know Her ) Also, if you have a brain and eyes, just look at the company he has kelp and influenced him: Frank Marshall Davis , Communist and real father, Bill Ayers, Communist, Beradeen Dorn, Communist .Jeremiah Wright Communist , fake minister, Saul Alenski , writer of Rules For Radicals just to name a few. So , you let me: Is he a maRxist judging from
these friends he keeps ? That is not a hard question. So, I say, Impeach, impeach, impeach …not only BHO II but bring
to justice anyone else who has aided and abetted this fake POTUS . Obama has
gone way passed the articles for Impechment . In the mid-term elections of 2014,
WE THE PEOPLE have spoken: STOP OBAMA

  41. Well, you’ve pretty much proved my claim by believing Joe and his volunteer used-car-salesman posse. It has been proven beyond any doubt Zullo is incompetent and that he lied and fabricated evidence. Joe is clueless.

That is a remarkably ignorant and delusional diatribe.

I will gladly stipulate we have our own brand of lunatics in France, and I’ve read some pretty racist/xenophobic tripe originating from our side of the pond over the years, but I honestly can’t imagine anyone (even less a retired serviceman) writing something so cretinous.

It does evoke (sort of) some of the anti-Jesuit rants penned by other lunatics in the late19th/early 20th century, which weirdly morphed into antisemitic propaganda later, with the same degree of absurd claims and utter ignorance of history and politics.

All in all, it is rather scary to see that the same breed that wrote similar tracts against FDR in the 1930s, or engaged in witch hunts in the 1950s, have not been relegated to your dustbins of history, but still thrive in today’s America. Although i suppose “thrive” is too big a word: they’re obviously fringe cranks.

    —-
When I read a diatribe like Marvin’s, it always sounds to me just like antisemitic Nazi propaganda. If one simply substitutes the names and particulars in the rant–it is clear that it consists of the same framework: Lies. Insinuation. Mockery. Dehumanization. Self-righteousness. Accusations that the target presents an existential threat. Promises to overcome and destroy the target. And, perhaps most importantly, threats to do all-of-the-above to anyone and everyone who might empathize or associate with the target.

In short, I no longer look at such rants as simply coming from a place of stupidity and ignorance–though some stupidity/ignorance in the population is necessary to sustain it. Instead, I see it as a cold, calculated, purposeful, goal-oriented political agenda, which relies upon tried-and-true techniques for dividing/conquering a population….

my guess is that this is the last we’ll hear from kessler. in one simple move he was able to further alienate himself from the sane folk ( you’re at liberty to talk about being deep undercover for the government but you’re not at liberty to say for which agencies? ) AND from the fine crazies who now believe he’s a government snitch.

    that took talent.
