WorldNetDaily’s inflated petition numbers

For some time now, WorldNetDaily has posted an online petition where readers could demand President Obama’s birth certificate. WND recently touted: Petition demanding birth certificate surges past 500,000.

We now know that the 500,000th signer of that petition was an Internet blogger who was not demanding Obama’s birth certificate, but rather just trying to see how fast they could sign petitions (they signed the petition 216 times in 20 minutes). This is documented on a new web site.

The petition that keeps going, and going and going

I recall when the petition was first published that there was some speculation over whether the petition contained adequate safeguards to prevent multiple entry by one person. Here at Obama Conspiracy Theories, for example, we take some steps to reduce the possibility that someone votes multiple times on the same poll. None of these methods are fool proof, but WorldNetDaily takes no precautions at all beyond verifying that that something is different between the two entries. You can even put numbers in instead of a name to more easily generate a unlimited string of different ones!

No wonder WorldNetDaily won’t release the names. It would be very embarrassing.

Yes it would be very embarrassing for them to release the names. Especially the ones I put in like Amanda Hugenkiss, Oliver Clothesoff, Seymour Buttz, Betty Humpter, Rosie Palm and several others.

  2. Northland10 says:

Given their lack of controls, I suspect they may find a host of names such as:

    Barack Obama
    Barry Soetoro
    Steve Obama
    Usurper Obama

No… I did not enter these but suspect many did.

  3. misha says:

I signed the law firm of Dewey, Cheatum and Howe.

  4. Saint James says:

How many of those who signed are not even qualified to vote? How many are from other countries? How many are currently incarcirated in state and federal prisons? How many are felons?

My sister who is in junior high and her friends found this petition so stupid that they signed the petition using different monickers!

  5. G says:

LMAO! So, should the next poll here be taking wild guesses at how many of those signatures might actually be unique & legit?

I know we don’t really have any good way of knowing, but since the whole WND petition is nothing but a pathetic debacle, it would be harmless fun to speculate on what the true “WND birther population” actually is.

Personally, I’m betting that maybe, just maybe up to 10% of their signatures are legit and not duplicates.

    Are you a “Simpsons” fan?

  7. Kathryn N says:

OMG, this is fun. I just went and signed the petition three times under the names
    Cheney Bush
    Apple Brownbetty
    Stinking Drunk
This is so much fun. We should have a contest for the most outrageous names we can think of.

  8. Kathryn N says:

    I just added “stupid birther”

  10. Saint James says:

Kathryn N, that sounds like an excellent idea. Who cares if wnd sends me solicitation e-mails afterwards, I’ll just place them in my spam folder. That Phil Berg bombarded me with solicitation e-mails after I sent him “my” birth certificate. ha ha ha ha

  11. Kathryn N says:

I just entered “Pussy Galore with the address: jamesbond@aol.com

  12. G says:

I think a lot of the older ones are totally bogus too.

If I recall, the folks over at Wonkette.com and Rumproast.com had a field day with this back when the petition first went up and they are both quite well renowned for being able to generate tons of comical spoof signatures onto stupid petitions.

I just entered “Pussy Galore with the address: jamesbond@aol.com

    oddjob@fortknox.gov

  14. Meriwether says:

Why worry about spam e-mail at all? It’s not like the petition requires you to use YOUR e-mail address. Just fill in Phil Berg’s or Orly Taitz’s instead. Let them get WND’s spam.

  15. Rickey says:

36 hours after the fact, WND has yet to report that Orly’s quo warranto action has been dismissed, despite the fact that they were happy to cover it when it was filed.

It has now been six days since Orly’s quo warranto suit was dismissed, and World Nut Daily still has not mentioned the dismissal.
