WorldNetDaily reports that the Huffington Post, the number 31 most popular web site in the United States according to site tracking service alexa.com, has been purchased by AOL for $300,000,000. This is what WND boss Joseph Farah had to say:
Because Americans have been bombarded for so long with “news” that is little more than opinion, they are now finding it increasingly difficult to distinguish between the two. There is no better illustration of this than the Huffington Puffington Post, which must be trafficked by every irrational, emotion-driven left-winger in the U.S. to achieve its Internet rankings.

Of course, in fairness to Joseph Farah, WorldNetDaily is more into lies and distortion than it is into plain “opinions” and it could only hope for a ranking like that of the Huffington Post. (WND is number 521 as of today). Personally, I don’t frequent either site. I guess that makes me not an “irrational, emotion-driven left-winger”.
Looks like that meter reached critical mass, Doc. Guess you’ll have to build a newer and stronger one.
If you’re describing Joseph Farah’s irony, using a graphic of a nuclear explosion seems completely rational.
However if you’re actually exploding H-bombs “unemotionally”, that’s purely the mindset of the right-wing.

Fwiw, you can see quite a lot of cool craters and other results of nuclear explosions by visiting the Pacific testing range (Marshall Islands) or Nevada testing range using GoogleEarth.
The range in Nevada is filled with moon-like craters.
The 1st test (Trinity in New Mexico) looks very unimpressive when compared to these higher power tests in NV.
Look up Operation Plowshare for the Sedan test.
That one made an amazing crater.
Joseph Farah doesn’t even correct errors on his site.
That would probably involve having to retract the entire site.

Either that or they think you’re never wrong unless you admit you’re wrong.
That school of thought seems to work quite well for Andrew Breitbart and Glenn Beck.

There is no equivalence between WND and Huffington Post. WND employs right-wing hacks and serial liars such as Jerome Corsi. If you go to Huffington Post’s home page today, you’ll see pieces written by the following people of substance:

In addition, Huffington Post frequently carries pieces which are critical of Obama and the Democrats. The difference is that the HuffPo pieces criticize Obama about his policies, rather than make up phony stories about his birth certificate. Also, HuffPo doesn’t have a PayPal button and any registered user can post comments on any topic.
Well, there is something of an equivalence in one area: science and medicine. HuffPo’s medical coverage is replete with quackery and pseudoscience, just like WND’s, and falls far below the standards of good journalism. The two even promote some of the same kinds of pseudoscience on occasion, like anti-vaccine nonsense.
Let me first thank you Dr. Conspiracy for your efforts. The information found on this site is quite handy for those, like me, who enjoy debunking from the periphery….but can’t quite devote themselves to full-time rabbit-hole spelunking.
Forgive my being off topic, but could someone please tell me an appropriate location to ask a question about a previously covered topic in such a way that it might have a chance of being seen.

The Occasional Open Thread – Mark II Turbocharged Special Edition
I visit the HuffPo every day. Of course, I’m what the Wall Street Journal derisively refers to as a lefty.
I’ve calmed waaay down. In college, I was a Trotskyite.
That’s interesting. I don’t believe that I’ve ever read any of science and medicine articles on HuffPo, so they have never made an impression on me. Bu health and science quackery is another plague which has grown exponentially thanks to the Internet.
One thing I never miss on HuffPo is Sunday’s commentary on the day’s talk shows by Jason Linkins. It’s hilarious and saves you the time and trouble of actually watching those dreadful shows yourself.
Check out Orac’s blog, Respectful Insolence. At http://scienceblogs.com/insolence/ . He regularly covers the quackery and woo that HuffPo publishes.
